I don't think there are six teams in this league better than us but we will see at the end of the season. If there are then the standard of the championship has improved considerably from when we were last in it. If I was a betting man I would put a sizeable sum on a top six finish. As you say though, if things go a bit wrong, we must stick by Adkins. The man is a genius.
The games against Leeds and Barnsley are hardly a tough test. There's a host of experienced Championship and ex Prem League teams yet to face so mid table is a realistic aim. Don't get carried away just yet.
im not basing it on recent perfomences im talking bout we have a great manager and players who can play premiership football. So looking at that we should challenge play-offs. I tihnk the manager chairman and players all think we can get play-offs. So if we keep winning as many games as we can like adkins says we could get play-offs. I didnt want there to be arguments etc. just my opinion i think wre better then people give us credit for. You guys must think that its possible it will be close whatever 6th-12th always only has a few points init like 4. Anyway onwards and upwards and hopefully to wembley.
It's way too early to tell, yes we have had an encouraging start but I get the feeling that Leeds are a lot weaker than last season and Barnsley are going to struggle. by the end of the season we could be reflecting that those were 6 of the easiest points of the year. Tonights game will tell us more but I wouldnt like to draw any conclusions until we are 6-10 games into the season. There are a lot of teams in with a shout in this league, many with far better claims to their aspirations than us, so before the season got underway a mid table finish with continued building next year felt like a reasonable position for many fans, as the season unfolds we will all adjust our expectations.
We are one of about 18 teams who could realistically make the play-offs. However, I would still be satisfied with survival in what must be one of the toughest leagues in the world.
Odds are we'll lose tonight, and when that happens we'll see a vast decrease in threads like this screaming that we'll go up/get the playoffs. If we sign a couple of people and then still get lucky, then maybe. Until then, I'll stick with what I've been saying from the moment we got promoted, anything other than relegation will do, and anything in the top half of the table I'll be delighted with.
I'm with you there bud. Safety and a year of the squad playing together at a higher level will do me fine. I don't mind people getting excited, as long as they don't get too down when things are not so good! A bit like the frame of mind Nige has got the players into.
I don't understand why others object to us being a bit cautious (probably to protect ourselves) as what we believe has no affect on the outcome of any game. Now if one of us was Rickie Lambert....
