lots of advice and suggestions, thanks, I do need some more modern stuff, I was hoping someone would put forward a Harry Styles/One direction Ed Sheeran Jls Steps song. Or summat from the charts last 2 or 3 years that can transfer onto guitar. thinking about it if the 10yr old girl isn't entertained for long enough she will get violent and smash both me and the guitar up. My fave songs are for novelty factor - overdoing the chorus "HEY!!" you've got to hid your love away Beatles and Reefs place your hands cos I can sing it much more throat gravely than the original. Both easy and again you can disguise the odd chord by just strumming with not fully pressed down fingers.( that's got to have a proper name?) So that's the "oldie quota" virtually used up. Oh just remembered one of the 30 yr olds is a massive Queen and Micheal Jackson fan. (sadly not the prophets song or seven seas of rye - queen but the later poppy stuff. Ive been just googling the song title plus chords and a few guitar tab sites come up plus as you say on youtube folk are only too happy to show you how to play stuff. Also while Ive got the attention of you guitarists out there whats the best software that works on win 10 so I can plug my electric guitar in to my pc and it will give me fuzz and other effects. free and easy to use would be nice. Im sure about 10 yrs ago I got something free working with win xp but cant remember now.
I prefer the Dambusters tune to Tom Hark when it comes to hating Leeds just because you can say fooking. Nearly.
After years of mindlessly learning to strum major chords but feeling I was getting nowhere, I very drunkenly played an awful rendition of American Pie, with mates singing along (including fellow board members). That was my sole guitar playing ambition. I celebrated in a Pete Townsendesq manner by smashing my guitar. My work was done, could retire at the top. Mrs A bought me a brand new guitar for Christmas since then, but it has mainly been ornamental, it looks beautiful on its stand which should mean it is so handy to pick up for a little jam. Doesn't quit happen though. Each winter I vow to learn to finger pick, but just never get round to it. Anyway, this time!
I tried jamming with a pal but as he is a more forceful person than me (and a much better player) we ended up just playing his faves. if I tried to play something, he'd lesten for a few seconds as I struggled then just go off on another of his faves. I might turn up next time being as good as that Santana geezer and bullt him into some Steps JLS and Boyzone.
I was a member of a beginner's guitar club, we learnt: Dirty Old Town - Pogues - easy with G,C,D plus an Em and a jolly sing-song style too Knocking on Heaven's door - as said before with G,D and Am/C alternating on verses Caravan of Love - G, Em, Am, D then the classic C,G,D chorus - also a good singalong Catch the wind by Donovan - capo on 3rd - C,Fm7 & G - cracking song to play and sing
Cheers for that but I need something from the last 10 years - charts stuff and even from the last 2 years would be great for the young kids.
Only play music for the young kids if they have contributed exactly the same to the family gathering as the adults. Helped buy the food, drive everyone there, etc. Same for the near 85’s. In fact if they haven’t, don’t even let them be there That’s just good business...I’ll send you my CV if you don’t believe me. Anyway I suspect this is the wrong forum for people who know anything about recent chart music! But trying to me more helpful, surely Ed Sheeran’s Galway Girl shouldn’t be too difficult and the young un’s would know it and the old uns might drunkenly join in?
I thought all guitars spontaneously combusted in 2000. Must be some explanation for the shower if sh*te in the charts this millenium.
