Off Topic Happy Birthday To Us!

It was 5 years ago today that a few people ventured over from the old BBC 606 site onto some weird new forum called not606 and the first thread on the Toon forum was posted. Over the next few days the rest of us followed and the Toon board was born.

There's been a few trials and tribulations along the way, but we're still going strong 5 years later - so Happy Birthday everyone!

Seems like a lot longer than 5 years to me. We've all had so many name changes that it's hard to remember who was who on the old 606 site. I was (and still am) Exiled_Geordie on there, but I've lost track of who else came over from the old site and who joined up more recently.

Yes. I was one of the first on the sunderland board. Seen many on this and our board come and go.

Them days we had cross board threads. A whole lot if fun.

5 years of ****e football also. Anyway good to see some of the older members have stuck around, and howdy to the newer ones.

Dont worry Commachio will return once again.

I still miss David Moyes Wife and Boro Gully from the old 606 - those lads were great WUMs. You think at times when they're about "Jesus wept you're boring" but then you need them when they aren't there. They were quality and some of the tit for tats they used to spark were fantastic. If you look at the ones we get now or the attempts around derby day, its pretty pathetic.

I can't remember all my usernames from BBC606 but I remember all the emails saying they had removed my posts Sporting Knowledge was an early one I think?

 

I came over from the old BBC site. Can't remember what my original user name was though.

I remember the early days of not606 and the slagging matches with the users of the rival spin off site JA606. Also the toonforum split.

 

Yeah we lost some good posters when they zipped off to a new forum. Good set of lads. I did think about having two accounts in the early days but I thought it seemed a bit daft trying to post about the same things in two locations. I liked the interaction of the different boards so stuck here. That hasn't happened as much.

 

I tried that for a bit but gave up after about 7 posts as the negativity on there just made me think Chaos had about 35 accounts on there!

 

I used to read the 606 but think I only posted a handful of times, if that. A favourite on there was the ITK who "knew" European football as if he had invented it. Can't remember his name.

When 606 closed I followed here and "lurked" for a while before deciding that I obviously knew more than everyone here put together and that you all wouldn't learn anything unless I posted.

And the rest is history...

Also joined the "new" site and had two accounts but just preferred the banter on here more so slowly gave up the other site though do go on every few months just to see what's happening.

 

I only ever went on 606 for the Darts Forum, it used to be decent.
Shame there's barely anything posted on the one here.

606 used to be full of twats so I never posted on there. You just couldn't keep up with the never-ending stream of vitriol and abuse, and the average age of the posters must have been about 9 years old on there. Didn't they used to stop any posts after a certain time at night too? I started posting on a (mostly Mags) spin-off site AA606 and found this site about 5 years later as the numbers started to wain on there.

 

Yep 11pm shut off. People would have to wait a whole night to get their reply in to a dig

 

...or do their best to post something at 10.59pm that was against the rules but wouldn't get modded till 8am
