That bloody Chuks Aneke has phoned me 3 times today telling me to get along to the Valley on Saturday. I tried to tell him of course I'll go, but he wouldn't listen, just rambled on, then hung up and phoned me AGAIN with the same spiel!
The new signings may not be ready to start yet, but their imminent arrival will hopefully give a kick up the Jacksie (sorry) to the likes of DJ, who will have to step up a gear to keep up his place. Hopefully this will mean a return of The Woke's anthem "Woke up this morning feeling fine" from the Covered End Choir, without whose support the team doesn't seem to function. It looks like a near sell-out so Fleetwood will be aiming to silence the Woke Army, but an early goal could do wonders, so expect Chuks to start again, alongside Washo, if fit, or Burstow.
Lee starting again any chance of an assist or a goal today Elliot…. MacGillivray is restored in goal following the birth of his daughter and Blackett-Taylor earns his first league start since late November, while Conor Washington is named among the Addicks’ substitutes bench having shaken off a hamstring niggle. Meanwhile, today’s game falls too soon for new signing Juan Castillo, who trained with the Addicks for the first time on Friday following a period of isolation having recently returned a positive COVID-19 test. Sean Clare and Akin Famewo will operate either side of skipper Ryan Inniss in Jackson’s back three, with Diallang Jaiyesimi and Blackett-Taylor expected to occupy wing-back roles. Albie Morgan, George Dobson and Elliot Lee will man an unchanged midfield, behind a front two of Mason Burstow and Chuks Aneke, who makes his first start in SE7 since rejoining the Addicks from Birmingham City. Washington is joined on the bench by Stephen Henderson, Jason Pearce, Ben Purrington, Ben Watson, Alex Gilbey and Jonathan Leko. YOOF Wasn’t there today, picked up a stomach bug. I heard it wasn’t sparkling football but two goals from academy players might make up for it. Looking forward to hearing from those that went
Yes, it’s great to see our ‘own’ lads doing well. This is probably Albie’s last chance to succeed at this level, so good luck to him if he can keep it up.
We were poor for the first half hour but gradually improved it was pleasing to see 2 of our own score the goals. Fleetwood caused us problems early on when their nippy forwards ran at our defence, but they never threatened in the air and we gradually took control in the second half. Dobson was my MOM, CBT put in a great shift, but Lee seems to have lost his way.
Followed this on the radio as I was picking the missus up at the airport. The first half sounded a bit of a slog though we went in at the break on the front foot. I missed the first goal as I was loading the suitcase in the boot, after which it seemed Fleetwood were hell bent on an equaliser. But no, after missing a great chance two minutes earlier, Albie Morgan put the game out of reach, and we got three valuable points. Given the run we were on, we needed to win by any means possible really, but it sounded as if we had some good moments (as did Fleetwood). I agree Lee is becoming a busted flush at the moment. The radio commentary was quite effusive about Blackett Taylor, who then went of injured. Whatever, three points at last.
I think it was just cramp with CB-T. Morgan did so well to make space for the chance which he missed, but his goal was a very popular one with the other players. I'd drop Lee fro Gilbey in midfield next game, Gilbey looked really hungry when he came on. Despite Burstow's goal, he's not ready to be a regular starter, so I'd bring in Washington.
Sounds right to me. I’m sure once Washington is fully fit that’s what will happen. Still no news on Stockley and this Middlesbrough loanee hasn’t been confirmed yet. Well done to Aneke for lasting the full 90 again. If he can keep doing that he will be a real asset, but another yellow ? That’s two in two games.
Jacko must be having second thoughts about signing Lee permanently. His drop in form is alarming, and we're looking to sign an attacking midfielder.
