Isn't Sean McGinty battling drink problems? Such a shame, as when he left it left a sour taste in the clubs mouth, despite getting a reported 250k down payment. I guess it can show the negative of moving on too soon. It sounds as if he was neglected once he arrived and wasn't deemed ''up to standards''.
Sean McGinty's Dad was the store manager of Sainsbury's Crayford when I worked there; he left to follow his son to Manchester. I would love it if he took over a Manchester store after the long serving manager retired and they since closed. That said he was a nice manager. Big interview in the I paper today with Franny Jeffers. He said that when he was at Charlton he went a bit wild with drinking and partying and turnin gup late to training because he always felt like he wasn't going to be in the team. The gist of the article was comparing him with Rooney (same school, Everton debuts at 16, England debuts in the same game and now Rooney is making his 100th England appearance whilst Jeffers is effectively retired and coaching Everton's kids). Told a story about how on the day of his England debut (2003 against Australia - was that the game Parker made his in too?) he went shopping with Rooney and Danny Murphy. Wonder if that's when Murphy bought that watch?
Does anyone else think that this latest non entity Tulio de Melo is precisely what we don't need ? Some will say 'give him a chance'... but 29 year old, overweight, free transfer, no club for 6 month Brazilians don't have much of a track record of success in the Championship.
Going a bit OTT there, Nick. Is he overweight? And do Brazilians have a negative track record in the Championship? The only ones that really come to mind are Do Prado who was a success at Southampton, and Gomes who's looking very good at Watford. Leeds also seem to be keen on their youngster, Adryen(sp)?
Oh come on, the list looks like a Who's Who of footballing greats: Anderson Silva - Barnsley 2006-08, 2008-10 Adriano Basso - Bristol City 2006-10, Hull City 2011-12 Guilherme Dellatorre - Queens Park Rangers 2013-14 Heurelho Gomes - Watford 2014-15 Guly - Southampton 2011-12 Iriney - Watford 2013-14 André Moritz - Crystal Palace 2011-13, Bolton Wanderers 2013-14 Neuton - Watford 2012-13 Fábio Pereira da Silva - Cardiff City 2014-15 Bruno Ribeiro - Blackburn Rovers 2012-13 Dennis Souza - Barnsley 2007-09, Doncaster Rovers 2010-11 Let's add the illustrious name of Tulio de Melo to that list.
Expect nothing and you won't be disappointed, which is precisely my attitude whenever we sign someone I don't know anything important about.
Pre- judging a player without seeing him, what a surprise. Does it really matter that he is a Brazilian? Why are you so reluctant to give him a chance? Perhaps it is because it doesn't fit in with an agenda that says every player bought has to have played in the Championship and be British. If he joins, I will give him a chance, as I do every player. I will then judge him. Kermorgants past record before he joined Charlton wasn't great and he did alright. We will probably only give him a short term contract anyway.
I'm shocked at you bringing Kermo up, Dick Nothing to lose. It can't be hard to improve on the current crop of strikers at our disposal (with exception to Igor). If we manage to find one worse then by god we should sack the lot of them.
I just get a bit peeved with the judging of players when A) they haven't signed yet, B) if they do sign, we haven't seen yet. Do we judge an actor on a performance in a Shakespearean production before his performance? No,we judge him after he has performed. Do we go to the Cinema and judge a film because a mate said it was crap? No, I would prefer to make my own mind up.
Well, I always judged Sid James on his performance before he appeared in the latest Carry On. I knew it would be crap, and the same as his last one. A bit like Tucadean.
No harm in making a guess on a discussion forum, Dickp. If he's good we will be pleasantly surprised, and being wrong is not the end of the world. But buying strikers on the cheap does seem to be counter-productive as you end up with a lot of dead wood on the wage bill(Church, Tucudean, Moussa).
If he does sign, which I have my doubts about, he will only be a stop gap until somebody better comes in January
Seems a funny stop-gap, considering he'll be nowhere near match-fit. I'm getting deja-vu all over again.
Unfair example. Our then manager had worked with Kermorgant for a long time in the recent past and would have known his potential and his limitations. Still a gamble, but a better informed one.
