Liverpool defender Kolo Toure will stay at Anfield despite the club receiving a bid from Turkish side Trabzonspor, according to Sky Sports sources. The 33-year-old has a year left on his current contract after signing from Manchester City on a free transfer last summer. He made 24 appearances for the Reds last season, including 15 starts in the league as Liverpool narrowly missed out on a first league title since 1990. "Kolo has been an incredible player. We brought him in because he is a winner, an authentic winner." Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers said Toure - part of the Arsenal 'Invincibles' side and a two-time FA Cup winner - was a key part of his plans for the new season, even if he was not a regular starter. "Kolo has been an incredible player. We brought him in because he is a winner, an authentic winner," said Rodgers, talking at a news conference on Liverpool's pre-season trip to the United States. "He's someone who doesn't play every single week but when he does play, he plays very well. Every day of his life in training, he gives his all. "Players like Kolo and Steven Gerrard, the older statesmen of the team, have been absolutely first class. We're hungry and ambitious; we went close last year. "That inspires us and gives us great motivation to go on this year. That is the beauty of this group of players - it's a very hungry group because that's what we're trying to bring in." ----------- A year older.....made some mistakes last year......are these comments to just hold out for a better price? How often will he feature? I'd much sooner keep Agger. I appreciate old heads in and around the squad esp as ours is so young but surely Toure should go?
I'm sure we wont go in with Lovren, Sakho, Skrtel, Agger, Ilori, Coates & Toure so at least 1 of them will be off. Sakho, Lovren, Toure & Skrtel seem like they are staying. Coates has looked decent in pre-season so it certainly staking a claim. Agger seems the most likely to leave then itleaves us with three first 11 players in Sakho/Lovren/Skrtel, 1 experienced back up in Toure and 2 youth CB's unless one of Coates/Ilroi go. I think one of the youth, Coates or Ilori will go which will give us 5 CB's going into the season.
Ah, I separated the centre and backs thinking that was the only thing I'll re-correct it and then delete all these comments so no one will know
He started the season well to be fair. We all thought he was going to be signing of the season after 3 games.
Why wont our bench warmers **** off? Borini, Assman, Toure, even Aspas hasn't ****ed off properly. Whats the point in Toure staying, not going to get the game time and if he does then its going to hamper the progress of young players we actually want staying. Toure please do one.
Well a good signing but not signing of the summer It nosedived pretty quickly after a couple of months He's too panicky, too slow and too old now
Ilori deserves to be backup I reckon. Only read good things about him on his loan last season. We did pay about 7 mill for him didnt we? He would be backup to the backup as ou dont have two centre halfs on the bench
