I've looked at how Brentford and Swansea have done in their fixtures against our remaining opponents i.e how they did against Sheffield W at home, Middlesbrough away etc. Brentford got 13 points from 6 games (they have still to play Millwall) or 14 points if you include Wat v Bren at the Vic. Swansea got 11 points from 7 games or 14 if you include our game in Swansea. Next I looked at how we did in the corresponding fixtures for their last games. We got 15 points from the 8 matches Brentford have still to play We got 11 points from 8 matches that Swansea have still to play. So if we do as well as Brentford did in our remaining fixtures and they do as well as we did in their remaining fixtures: Net gain 1 or 2 points for Brentford. If we do as well as Swansea did in our remaining fixtures and they do as well as we did in their remaining fixtures: Net gain 0 or 3 points for Watford. WARNING: Past performance is no guarantee of future performance. I will not be held responsible if you bet your house on us getting automatic promotion and we don't. However, if you do bet your house on us getting automatic promotion and we do I will expect a few thousand pounds by way of thanks. That is how stock brokers work, isn't it?
Not likely to put any bets on NZ, but did have a look at the bookies odds to see what they are offering. Not surprisingly they are not offering any price against Norwich. Right across the board they have Watford as odds on. Brentford come next with a mix of odds on, against and evens, with Swansea all against. These odds reflect where punters are putting their money, but the bookies adjust the odds to ensure they cover any losses I believe. I am sure that your survey is as good as any.
Great analysis! ...if only.........!! I think these last few games will see more than one club slip up more than once.... I also think we have momentum now.... and that will count for a lot... plus of course strength in depth..... here's hoping...
6 wins apparently would do it if the gap stayed as it is till the end of the season. Hopefully have 2 of those by this time next week !
Technically speaking, it could be all over by round 43 if the gap stayed the same. Maybe even sooner if Birmingham and Preston can repeat their heroics midweek - and Huddersfield find some form this afternoon. Shades of 68/69 when we lost our final three matches and still ended up as champions - although I'd baulk at losing at Luton...
Now ,here's a thought. What situation do you want when we play Naaaarwich ? 1) Norwich already champions - so don't care and we have decent chance of win which we still need. 2) Norwich still need win to be certain of promotion. We need the win too. 3) Norwich in trouble, desperate for a win - and we need one too to stay in automatic places. 4) Both of us promoted - ( Yes I know that's the ideal but is it likely ? Actually, it is if Swans & Bees carry on as they are !)
Both already promoted and put on a display of dazzling football to celebrate would be my preference...
I was trying to be honest with our results and still only had us going up by a point... Had wins over: Reading Luton Millwall Swansea Draw with: Brentford Boro Lose to: Norwich 1 Norwich 46 +29 101 2 Watford 46 +30 90 3 Brentford 46 +26 89 4 Swansea 46 +15 86 But can you see Brentford gaining 8 points on us in current form?
Can you see Brentford and Swansea getting 20 points from their last eight games? That would give them 89 points, which took us up last time. That's six wins and two draws from eight games. If we can get 90 points that's four more wins from our last seven games, anything less for us, and it's squeaky what's it time perhaps.
The more we can keep Norwich within our sights and like a magnet they will pull us up. We have managed to get back up to 2 points per game and if we now keep to that we should be fine. From here we can manage the games and I believe we only need 90 for top 2 but will get 92 or 93. Unfortunately the best we can do is get within 4 or 3 of Norwich, I don't rule it out but winning the league is highly improbable.
Just been reading comments on a Brentford forum where the opinion is that Watford and Norwich are beyond catching, and they need to get players fit and rested for the play-offs.
I watched our home game against Norwich a couple of days ago. Apart from a purple patch of, maybe, 20 minutes we were very poor. Norwich were no better. Everything about us has improved since then. My only concern is that our performance against Wednesday was similar to that against Norwich. I hope that we are not reverting to those types of games.
I think there is a lot of confidence in our defence that even at our best we can still nick a win. Maybe we missed Sema attacking wise and Sarr prehaps not fully fit.
