Posted missing? Na I have been redecorating my house and been out on the pish all weekend. I apologise if you haven't caught any of my comments. I'm hardly gonna avoid not606 because we sold a striker. IF Rangers did have to start again then Scottish football would be dead. Just look at the gap between 2nd & 3rd every year.
I never said that it would destroy Scottish football, but I believe that the level would decline significantly. What motivation would the Celtic board have to maintain current investment levels in the squad when you're consistently 20 points ahead of the nearest competition? Do you think TV companies would be happy to put the same amount into the SPL without the Old Firm rivalry?
How would it be dead if 'Rangers' had to start in Div 3? The TV deal is signed through to 2017. How do you mean by 'dead'?
It's been reported that the SPL TV deal is entirely dependent on there being a minimum of 4 Old Firm games a season. Is that true or not? I don't know, but the SPL is ****ed if that's true. Potentially the deal could be scrapped if Celtic or Rangers never made the top six.
If ra gers went bust then granted , alot of the enjoyment and the sense of achievement of winning the league would be tainted for a while it would be a case of we won the league so what? so if winning the league became a formality what would we do..... i know ...we could over spend beyond belief in an attempt to win the champions league ...just throw money at it.....it surely has to happen!!! ...then if that goes tits up in 5/6 years time we could always look back and say " oh **** , you know all that spending we did back in the day when times were better , well its ****ed us big time " sounds like a plan
It would make sense if that was true, the old firm games are the only reason the SPL has a tv deal in the first place. Without the old firm games Sky would be as well to give a tv deal to the Irish league rather than the SPL, thats the kind of standard we're talking about now
Thanks ST. I knew I'd read it somewhere but wasn't sure I didn't read it in my imagination. Yeah, I wouldn't even hazard a guess as to what would actually happen to Scottish football if Rangers did either go bust or become a Newco. It would be some sort of shambles that is badly mismanaged though....this is Scotland
Cheers. It does make sense right enough. It's hardly a fortune though anyway. Maybe I just hate Rangers too much to want them not to die.
