One of the most loved horses in modern Australian history was a grey gelding named Subzero. Way back in 1992, Subbie as a four year old ploughed his way through rain sodden ground at Flemington and landed himself a Melbourne Cup. After hanging up his racing plates, Subbie took up duties as a Clerk of the Course mount, where he served with distinction until 2008 when we was pensioned off due to arthritis. His arthritis medicine became unavailable the following year and it was announced that the old boy would have to be put down. Luckily the drug managed to be sourced from the good ol' USA. and Subzero lived on. Subbie then turned his face toward a new career, that of a humble friend of the needy. He would spend the rest of his days visiting hospitals, nursing homes and schools until his life came to an end a few months back. He was 31. In respect for all that Subbie gave during his long reign as a national treasure, the VRC has honoured his memory with a grey's race, The Off The Track Subzero Handicap. The 1400m "All Grey" race took place today at Flemington. No 2, Berdibek carrying 9.8, nailed it right on the line. Bright yellow.
We have another good one. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed's Exceed and Excel colt Bivouac, strolls away with the 1200m, $1,500,000 G1 Darley Sprint Classic. Godolphin has not ruled out sending him abroad next year. 88th G1 success for the 51 year old Glen Boss. No3, Godolphin blue. Barrier 6.
The lovely mare Arcadia Queen taking out the $2,000,000, G1, 2000m, Mackinnon Stakes. Her Stakes now total $3.7 million. Comes from last.
The G1 Railway Stakes run in Western Australia last Saturday. The favourite Inspirational Girl proves much too good. No 11, in the last half dozen early. Maroon and white, maroon sleeves and quartered cap.
The first of the 6 qualifying races for the greatest trotting race on the planet, the Prix d'Amérique, was run yesterday at Vincennes. Pink and Purple. 5, 9,13. https://www.letrot.com/fr/replay-courses/2020-11-22/7500/4
Quite a race that qualifier and what a finish!I would doubt that Diable De Vauvert can reproduce that again, but maybe, we'll just have to wait and see. Great harness race the Prix d'Amérique, Last Saturday in January, I believe.
Year Swanny, I sort of think it'll be hard for the the place getters to take out the Prix d'Amérique. Too many horses finished so close together, so I tend t think the winner hasn't appeared yet.
The wonderful mare Almond Eye makes it 9 G1 races in taking out today's Japan Cup. She now goes into retirement. It was a brilliant race to watch. Almony Eyes aside, I know who I was cheering for in the straight. No 2. (gate 2) blue and red, black cap.
4 wins for CY Ho on the card. With HK in the precarious state it is in could there be a future for him overseas?
