Just spotted this on the Newsnow website, not exactly what I was hoping for http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/685597724?-276:790
Siena, Palermo and Chievo are not big famous teams but if this is the man to stop our slide, then good. If he is not, I'm sure the Pozzos will find their man.
Just had a look on SkyBet and they don't even have odds on our next manager (which they did this morning) Also looked on Oddschecker (http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/watford/next-permanent-manager) and this guy does seem favourite... 6-1 ON! Looks pretty much done then? A bit more on him; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giuseppe_Sannino Doesn't seem to have held a managerial role for more than about 3 years! 13 teams in about 17 years!
The Wiki page already has him appointed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giuseppe_Sannino Looks as if he has been in and out of more clubs than Marlon King.
Oddly worded article that - 'sacked by Chievo last month' and 'has reportedly already rescinded his contract with the Flying Donkeys'. Wonder which is correct? To be honest, he is just about what I expected - but am not overly sure that he will be successful. Still, got to see how he pans out before calling for his head.
If it is this guy then it's completely what I expected.....a complete unknown, acquired on the cheap with absolutely no English championship experience whatsoever. True to the Pozzo model, and if he fails he will be quickley sacked for the next unknown to come in
This is on the BBC Live Reporting timeline; "FOOTBALL Italian Giuseppe Sannino, sacked by Serie A side Chievo in November, claims he has been contacted over the managerial post at Watford, vacated by Gianfranco Zola's resignation, and is now set to fly to England. "Me to Watford? I don't want to say too much, but there has been some contact and soon I will fly to England to analyse things and to understand if something can be born," he is said to have told Italian station Radio Sportiva." Certainly looks like the Pozzo option - cheap in the hope it will succeed, and if not, try again!
This looks like a holding operation-- a short term appointment with the brief to keep us in the division this season-- then appoint an ambitious manager for next season, capable of organising a competitive team from the players the Pozzo's provide, and with a profile strong enough to attract some good loan players. Future managers will be Italian of course. BTW , how do people interpret Zola's motives here? Demoralised? Lost self confidence? Doing the right thing or lacking in fighting spirit? Is it a Kevin Keegan moment--the realisation that he is not up to the job?
Please don't let it be this guy! He won't know where Watford is in the world, will only vaguely have heard of the championship, and won't speak English. I'll give him 8 footballing months at most before he is sacked from his latest club! Thank god Graham Taylor has got no involvement with this lot!
Quite a bold step if true but then what other Italian managers could we have/want or afford? I couldn't see them appointing a British guy.. It must be a worry about this chap having no experience of the league or its players. Clubs in Italy have 3/4 managers a season (most of them) so its no surprise he has been around the block. What we really need is Abdi fit and somebody to get the players confidence back which they lack in all areas.
Given the pictures, and they tell as many lies as stories, perhaps the Pozzos think the players need a good kick up the bum. Mr Niceguy goes out, Mr Screamandshout comes in. I have no idea how long head coaches in Serie B and below generally keep their jobs. There may be nothing particularly strange about his managerial experiences in Italy. Having said all that, I have a strong sense of Adi Boothroyd.
Define 'doing well'. If he is, it doesn't appear to be at anything connected with football - for over three years now...
nothing concrete, and until it is, i won't hold my breath. But...oh lordy...was my first reaction..not sure i've moved on much from that during the day tbh!
