A nation of thieves and liars, it's no coincidence that all the cheating in football eminates from Italy, or that they keep getting caught fixing matches.

We went to Malaga earlier this year for £52 return for two. Exceptional place for tapas etc.

Also went to Amsterdam for weekend rather than go in to London and it was quicker and cheaper than the train lol, 35 minute flight and £50 return for two.

i just find that ‘staycations’ are a rip off, I looked at staying in Cornwall and the prices are a joke.
I should have asked @PISKIE to put us up in his caravan

I thought the South American’s invented the cheating - thinking Argentina and Uruguay back in the day

One thing I've always loved about Italy and France is when they are not eating they're talking about food later.

Venice, lovely place, too many people. Two hour journey there on the train from Bologna - didn't use the high speed as the time saving was only 30 minutes, in comparison say to Firenze time saving which is 1 hour 20 minutes, so this time didn't justify paying three times the travel cost.

The day although was hot was overcast, this enabled me to change plans in catching a water ride, instead to being able to walk to St Marks Square, not only saving money but also taking in more of the sites.

From start to finish probably took somewhere in the region of 12-13 hours. Obviously including food and drink

Gondola rides absolute rip-off and imho not worth the 80-100 euro and i had no intention of parting with my money for one.

Would i go back probably not, was it worth it, yes, as long has you keep your head screwed on. Best bit opting for the walk and avoiding the crowds worst bit aside from the human race my feet are killing me.

I don't eat Pizza and what has Garlic bread got to do with anything?

I expect you are the typical brit, that is very cultured, thats why you was employed more as a meat head, rather than for your brains :)

Yes, i ate in one restaurant and one more a cafe, you need to choose where you eat wisely. So if you eat around St Marks Square you will get ripped off, and remember in Venice not only do you get charged the normal coperto, you may also get a service charge.

Sounds similar to what I've read. You have to ask this all up front at the restaurant iirc.

Rome is an absolute must if you are into history. And food.

Cheap too, if you go in the off season.

Yes. Always remember there is a cover charge in most places in Italy (Rome might be an exception). It ranges from 1-3 euro per person and is on your receipt as a coperto, basically it is a cover charge - meaning any table that has a cloth and serves bread. You cannot refuse to pay it, if you use the restaurant you accept the charge as a condition. But yeah in Venice don't be embarrassed to check the prices, it avoids nasty shocks.
