Even sky reporting it now. Southampton and Denmark defender Jannik Vestergaard, 27, is a target for former club Werder Bremen in January. (Sky Sports)
That would be a good move for both Saints and Vestergaard. Nor sure about the comments regarding shipping out Yoshida. Club legend surely with a future somewhere in the structure?
Agree that it would be a good move for all parties. As for Maya, I'm sure we'd all love him to stick around, espescially being two seasons from a testimonial, but I won't begrudge him if he wants first team football and/or to go back home.
It's strange how us possibly selling players always hits the headlines first.............I really hope we have someone in mind...........
Not a rumour, more an observation; does anybody else’s heart sink a little when the only names we are linked to are rarely heard of overseas players? I understand us having a financially reluctant chairman, but with us having such a strong core of English players, might it be worth pushing the boat out and looking around the lower leagues...?
There are some very good British players in the Championship that would boost our team/squad rather than foreign players who will take time settling in
Yes there are, and there are also British players that take time to also settle like unknown foreigners. I could raise you a Che Adams
The argument against would be Che Adams not yet having scored a goal, so it’s not just foreign players that take time to settle in. Djenepo has settled fairly well. Every individual is different.
Echo.o.o.o.o.o.o.o (Although I think I’m on Badger’s ignore list for some weird reason). I never upset anyone
So the window opens in a couple of days but still no concrete rumours yet, other than Vestergaard out. Ralph said he wants two, but with January notoriously difficult to buy, I’m going for just the one signing on-loan.
Che Adams to Leeds on loan it seems. I get it makes sense for all parties, but just hope there is a recall clause in case Ings picks up an injury.
I’ll believe it when it happens. I just don’t think he’s had long enough to prove himself, not when you look at players like Jay “One Goal” Rodriguez or Sadio Mané.
Not sure that applies any more, ever since the 25 man squad rules came in. At the end of each transfer window you have to register you squad until the next time, and I'm not aware that a player is allowed to be registered if they are already registered with another club at that time (as would be the case with players out on loan). Meaning that any recall clause would only make a material difference if recalled by 1 February (or whenever the squad submission deadline is). I might be wrong though.
I don’t see how we could allow Adams to go out on loan with Long with a knee injury and Obafemi only able to play once a month due to lack of fitness to do the job
I thought it was very telling earlier this month when Ralph said that we're looking for a couple of signings to balance the squad. Not necessarily improve. But balance. So my immediate thoughts went towards a couple of cheap back-up FBs.
I imagine we just want some cover at RB/LB, then reassess in the Summer. Can't imagine there are too many starting 11 quality RB's for sale in Jan.
Sadly, I can already foresee what the outcome of that summer assessment will be. Namely, the same as the last four summers.
In the summer, we'll assess and conclude that it'd be wise to save some money for January, where we'll assess and conclude that January prices are too high, and we should do our business in the summer.
