Anyone catch the Stoke game on TV and get a glimpse of Jonathan Woodgate? Jeez he looked terrible like some unshaven bleary eyed coke head . The couple of tackles I saw were very late and he was lucky to stay on.
This from a former Newcastle superstar centre half. In his prime he was amazing and his knowledge of the game postional-wise and timing were spot on. Anyone playing alongside him came on leaps and bounds.

Sad to see the recurring injuries have blighted his career that he needs to ply his trade with a pub team like Stoke.

Did his injuries stem from a very robust challenge he made for Newcastle in the Chelsea match against Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink ( that well know fat Eddie Murphy impersonator)? Hasselbaink had legs like tree trunks and wrestled Woodgate on the byline and Woodie never looked the same again IMO.

He realises that he's a shadow of what he once was, so goes steaming into challenges to try and make up for not reading play as well as he should.

Also doesn't help he's played out of position at RB, though agreed he's made some shocking challenges recently.

There was story a few years ago, think it was when he was playing for us and we had a European game, themanager told them at the airport to keep their passports safe and Woodgate was shocked that he needed his passport, don't think he flew out in the end. Don't know how true that is though.

Stoke regularly play 4 CB's across the back four now.

I was playing in a charity golf outing, several years back, when Woodgate played as a guest. He was a Leeds player at the time, and they insisted that he have a golf buggy, rather than walking the course.

Anyway, I was told by the person who had invited him, that Woodgate rang him, the night before, to say that he need a driver, for the buggy. When asked why, he explained that he was on a driving ban!!

Hard to tell with him playing right back. Thing is Pulis admitted a while back he was ill suited to the role! Yet he continues to play 4 centre backs every week. Anyway although I hate their anti football I was loving it on Sunday as it put us above Liverpool.

One of my favourite videos ever.

I used to love Woodgate, unfortuantly no player can last forever.

Oh aye it was as bad as they go. Actually did quite well when he played though, mind I don't think he even got 10 games in before they realised we'd sold them an absolute crock and got shot. Got us back big time with Owen of course!
