Despite losing 3-2 to Middlesbrough on Friday night, R’s boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink took the positives from the narrow loss at Loftus Road, insisting his side are making more forward steps with every game that passes under his watch. The R’s away form, however, is something that will concern Hasselbaink. Rangers have won just two of their last 16 league fixtures on their travels – a stat that will need to change drastically if the Hoops are to improve ahead of next season. Hosts Leeds, meanwhile, head into tonight’s clash in the wake of two derby defeats in successive matches. Following Saturday’s last-gasp loss to local rivals Rotherham United, Whites boss Steve Evans told BBC Radio Leeds that the club's fans have every right to be unhappy after a defensive error consigned them to a second consecutive Yorkshire derby defeat. With the game level at 1-1 and the Millers down to 10 men, Giuseppe Bellusci's mistake gave away possession in the final minute and Whites goalkeeper Marco Silvestri was sent off for bringing down Lee Frecklington. With all three substitutions already made, Bellusci had to go in goal to face the penalty, which was converted by Greg Halford to consign Leeds to defeat in disastrous fashion. That loss followed a 4-1 home thrashing by Huddersfield Town a fortnight ago before the international break, as the Elland Road side's brief recent revival was cut short in brutal fashion. Hasselbaink, who pits himself against another of his former clubs for the second fixture in a row, is likely to make changes for the trip to Yorkshire. Northern Ireland international Conor Washington is pushing for a start, whilst Jack Robinson and Ben Gladwin are ‘getting stronger’ by the day and could both feature. Young goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell is poised to make his Leeds debut in the absence of the suspended Silvestri. Souleymane Doukara is also suspended, one game into an eight-match ban for biting Fulham defender Fernando Amorebieta in February. please log in to view this image Possible Starting Xl's please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image James Perch & Wife Olivia MATCH ODDS Leeds United win: 17/10 Draw: 11/5 QPR win: 17/10 LAST TIME OUT QPR 1, Leeds United 0 – Championship – Saturday 28th November 2015 Scorer: QPR – Austin HEAD TO HEAD QPR wins: 17 Draws: 14 Leeds United wins: 20 MATCH OFFICIALS Referee: J Adcock Assistant Referees: S Clayton & W Grunnill Fourth Official: S Stockbridge please log in to view this image
The QPR 'possible starting Xl' isn't actually much of a possibility, but I thought I'd see what it would like with a few of our younger players thrown in.
I think that's officially known as an 'O'Rourke.' Named after the Burnley debutant Billy O'Rourke ( RIP ) aged 17, who conceded seven at Loftus Road in Feb '78 and left the pitch in tears.
The poor lad, seem to recall at the time the local paper in Burnley voted him their MOTM........the game was on MOTD and is on You Tube, have to dig it out for old times sake.....
I hear that Polter took a knock and may not play. If that is the case, then I presume that Washington will play up front. If so, then I wonder if we will stick to the 4-2-3-1 set up or go 4-4-2? I think that we are expecting a physical match and expect us to continue to play 4-2-3-1 and count on the counter attack. I expect Washington and Luongo to start, and I would like to see Khayati, Robinson and Gladwin to get a run out as subs. I am also very interested whether JFH will give Clint a start to stabilise the defensive errors of the Boro match. Anyway, I am expecting a few surprises on the team sheet today and I hope that Jimmy get's it correct. COYR's!!!
I was at that game, I was eleven at the time and remember it like yesterday, which is quite bloody scary.
I read somewhere Clint was out Friday due to a hamsting problem which was also expected to keep him still out tonight. Pity we don't still have OBZ to fill in for Polter!
My only visit to Leeds was in '74 during the three day week. They were unbeaten & on the way to become champions when we visited on a cold frosty day for a 2.00 kick off. Went on the football special as fuel was not as available as normal, which meant hanging around Leeds station for a while afterwards, (trains were timed for a 3.00 start). That was a little bit dangerous! We outplayed them but had to settle for a 2-2 draw due to the referee giving offside against Gerry even though he was yards on! Best wishes to any of you that have paid their mad prices to go tonight.
£40 to get in there tonight isn't it Terry? My first and only visit to Elland Road was just before Christmas in 1982. We had to sit in the stand as they had a terrace ban enforced. Can't remember what it was for. It was absolutely freezing but came away with a 1-0 win thanks to a Clive Allen goal.
That's what I read 999's. £35 ticket if bought in advance & £40 on the night! All for a midweek, midtable game that won't have any effect on the season!
Went to the game up there Autumn 75, the first game we lost that season. 2-1 Stan penalty for us. My Dad drove (he would drive to Newcastle and back in a day in the 70s to bid for some work). It was a ****ing long way and a miserable place. But not as bad as St Andrews.
