WooHoo! Some more awayday fun and games looms large. It's off to the King Power stadium this weekend, to teach Madders and co a few tricks. On that subject, the b@stard has only scored 6 and assisted 5 in his last 8 games Team news still a little sketchy but expect a cross between an academy XI and Diss male voice choir. Having said that, historically, our record is not too bad - we've won 22, drawn 13 and lost 24. However, on my sole visit (to Filbert St) in the F A cup in Jan 1997, we contrived to lose 2 - 1, goals from Garry Parker and Ian Marshall for them and a Neil Adams penalty for us. The heady days of Keller, Izzet, Lennon, Claridge, Heskey.....and ooh ahh, Spencer Prior. Regular updates as and when available.
Onwards and upwards! I'm really pleased that the line-up predictions are in the past. Who knows who will play on Saturday. It's actually created some interest in this forlorn season.
On Christmas day Krul announced he had tested positive for covid . The isolation period in England, I believe, is seven days. So, if he tested positive the day before the announcement, he could be back on Saturday against Leicester. Have I got that right?
He wasn't the main problem, Rick, but he did look a waste of 5m. IMO he didn't look any better than McGovern and we also have several promising young keepers.
It was £2.5m plus the same in bonuses which are unlikely to be realised. I would far rather have Gunn as backup than McGovern or a youngster against PL attacks.
I was going to say I thought it was £2.5m plus bonuses which makes the business sounds lot better than £5m
I didn't see Gunn as causing ANY of our problems yesterday against Palace. All three goals were perfectly placed and pretty much beyond saving. I don't believe Krul would have done any better.
I was thinking in terms of the confidence Krul gives the team and him organizing the defense. We need a strong, experienced leader there especially with all the personnel changes.
Yes, that's a good point - especially with Hanley out, though Gibson seemed to do a good job as stand in captain.
Hard to judge, but Leicester could have as many, if not more players missing when we face them. Vardy and Maddison both picked up injuries against Liverpool midweek and 9 other players are listed as out or doubts. Fingers crossed that we finally get some sort of break.
Fingers crossed, but our major problem is that our injuries/Covid absences seem to have directly targeted every member of our choice starting XI one-by-one. It would be a whole lot easier if the injuries/isolations had been a bit more spread out throughout the squad.
It would also help if the matches were spread out more. Two days between games is ridiculous. Money talks though. Rashica is our only possible player returning but that's not definite. Leicester have Vardy out and 7 other players not available. Both clubs are in consultation with the PL about whether the match can go ahead.
How do people feel about this postponement? Relief because it gives us a bit of time to rebuild and hopefully turn things around? Or disappointed because it looks like Vardy and Maddison might both have been out? I haven't a clue how I personally feel.
Marginal relief because their team without Vardy and Maddison is still better by a larger margin than our second XI than our first XI versus their first XI, especially with confidence as low as it is now. But it feels much of a muchness at this stage. Essentially, we need a lucky break - several matches on the spin where things go our way and we can find some momentum. It’s a massive long shot though as we’ve discussed and realistically we have to be expecting relegation, which bookies (and almost everyone on here, I think) estimate at 90%+ probability.
