Duane had a neat trick, he'd back into the last defender and kind of sit on his knee, before turning and slotting it home. Saw him play against us for Rushden&Diamonds.
One of my fave players (Towers was the best though) he seemed to fill the Windass hole perfectly....Didn't he score 6 in a game (haven't watched the vid yet)?
Signed by Terry D*lan for about £25k, did he come from Donny Rovers ? Inspired signing at the time, as was Alan Fettis by the same manager. I'm sure with a bit more tweaking we can make out Terry D to be one of our best ever managers in the same manner as some have crucified Steve Bruce and Phil Brown.
I have very fond memories of TD's time with us. Like I said in another post Ternent is the one I see as being the catalyst that took away the money!
Back to back relegations take some doing, especially by the same manager, then to be rewarded with a new longer contract, yeah, good old Terry D, he took us to division three......
Which of the goals made it onto MOTD's goal of the month? I think it must have been the 4th one (and last minute equaliser) - the volley but in my memory this was much further out. Cracking cheeky little finish for the last one mind you.
I remember Duane D being a reasonably good buy on Championship Manager 1993 - so I was delighted when we signed him. Think he was at Torquay then.
According to Jeff Lee, the greatest youth talent he and Dolan ever saw was Craig Lawford. Rich in football history and experience.
Dolan is the only manager I have ever barracked. Signing that new contract after 2 relegations when we were up for sale meant we were effectively lumbered with the ****, and it was a huge disincentive at the time to new buyers to find themselves stuck with the Relegation King. Gross stupidity by Fish or deliberate antagonism towards the fans? You decide.
Same here - and have never called for a manager to be sacked since (from the terraces at least). Might be standard pratice and admittedly I've never seen it 100% confirmed as true, but at the time, it galled that we'd hear in the local media about how they continually 'saved the club' by selling the assets (Fettis, Windass, Carroll, Jenkinson, Payton) yet apparently Dolan would trouser a percentage of the transfer fee when the club could barely afford two ply toilet roll.
... who would have beaten us 4-2 otherwise! Of course our modern PL outfit would have blown little Whitby away with at least a dozen just like they did Trencin. .. oh wait.
To this day I don't think Fish gets it...... Bit like the Allams really, 'cept they live in a bubble and surround themselves with fawning parasites who keep their egos intact.
