So I've given an excellent summing up of what a young player needed to do.

clearly he is still honest and hardworking but he's not developed the 2things i have highlighted

Positivism in passing, don't bother with show boating he's failed on that one too.

Poor lucas had his leg done and was playing very well before that chelsea league cup tie.

    oh and this

lucas played v real madrid in 2014 2 years after this and henderson played i nhome tie so both did.

blame joe allen if you want.

tell me one thing wrong with the above view of henderson as a young player....

Can plays good forward passes occasionally. Doesn't mean he's great going forward.

Same applies to Hendo, whose only decent attribute was his dynamism and mobility which is now gone.

It's a shame because he could have been much more.

I didn't say he was great at it. Just bus me that people keep saying he's a coward and only passes sideways which is compete bollocks. His first thought is always forwards and as a result he gives possession away a lot.

IMO, you can't knock someone for trying. Equally, you can't moan about someone not doing something when they clearly try to.

Henderson is not a creative player but all the good things i said about him are what makes him a player.

Its a pity his first thought is sideways.

He can actually deliver a decent cross etc. Its just he rarely does. Same as that great goal this year. Its extremely rare and i think most realise the further from goal the netter cos he rarely aims anything.

Its rare because he doesn't have the ability to do it regularly, like Gerrard could do in his prime.

Thing is the stuff that the likes of Gerrard & Alonso could do regularly isn't in Henderson's locker. I think its a bit harsh on the guy to say he could've been as good as Alonso if he 'worked on his passing', there's probably less than 10 players in world football that are anywhere near Alonso's passing range and ability.

You deny he produced 2 crosses no other lfc player remotely coyld v chelsea last month that completely unlocked chelsea...

No other lfc player has that ability period. Not one of them.

If you actually read the qords i wrote in 2012 you'd note i single out henderson for work rate and selflessness which i attributed as my favorite things about alonso. Ive said this about alonso many many times and even recently comment to the same point when saying some on here perferred masch but for me alonso was the best guy we had in the position.

As i said at the time in 2012 henderaon needed to work on his passing and as time has gone on hes proved hes not at all creative even though hes got the ability in there to produce a wonder ball or strike.

All too many times hes just swung a lwg when its mattered

But of course you just want to have a go so....

I don't think his first thought is to pass forward. Maybe it is but then he chooses to pass it sideways. Our full backs are constantly around the half way line because it's easier for Hendo to pass it to them - they can't make those long runs and expect anyone to find them.

Cowardly comment is the fact that he does not take responsibility. When we are chasing games, he doesn't take the game by the scruff of the neck. Even in the final minutes, he would rather play sideways and backwards.

As far as I can remember, I don't think he's ever put in a truly dominant, match winning performance. He's a good support player though. Great atttitide and professionalism - but certainly no leader.

Those first time ones from just inside of wide after ball is rolled back. He gets brilliant bend and shape, put in a few like that, the one for goal c Chelsea being most recent example.

I said about a year or so ago, when he's near the area his first time passing for through balls was brilliant. Thinknwas when we had Suarez and Sterling but he'd play lovely 10 yrd passes being the defence and was consistently very good at doing it. Doesn't seem to get that high to do that or have the runnnera these days it seems

It's his trademark. Problem now is that because of the heel injury, I'm not sure he can physically keep running up and down the pitch. And - he's better playing from the right.

IMO klopp is trying to find a place in the team for him. I really wouldn't be surprised if he was nothing more than a squad option next year.

If you see him as only a squad option Jimmy who will take captaincy?

Or maybe a captain could be on the summer shopping list.

We don't really have players who are captain material do we.

Shouldn't be given to Milner either as that will make him wrongly Ireplaceable.

Henderson isn't a captain nor is he a leader.

I can't see anyone else in the squad really so option is bring someone in who can take that role in a year or two. It would be a bit controversial to bring someone in and give them captaincy straight away.

Alternatively - you could have a club captain and a team captain.

Thing is if you were going to bring in someone to be a captain they would have to be experienced or it wouldn't work. And unfortunately we don't seem to have much interest in signing players first team players over the age of 25 so I doubt that's going to happen.
