this is an interesting infographic. 1. % presses in groups and no of chains. this number is low and hints towards issues with new formation and trigger points for pressing actions collectively. 2 Press direction is through middle which makes sense as we had in effect 2 forwards central to do just that. 3. the lowpress on left make sense as we were very careful to marshal KDB and cancelo and not get out of position also realistically silva ran over to the elft and hung out trying to overload milner with foden. This does show where we can improve again through more consistent team selection and getting down to business. figure out how to ensure the whole team functions as one based on the first man going and the rest following.
bump Here are some interesting stats 1. Super league table. this shows how poor spurs have been against good sides. It also shows a lot of high scoring games between the various teams and goals flying in both ends. Chelsea are having a mare. Spurs are disastrous again. Arsenal are high scoring, thats the difference this year that they have picked up points that otherwise they would not be where they are: this reminds me of UTd's last title when RVP was playing. they were throwing in goals at one end but scoring more. Utd are doing best of all currently but look like a counter attacking side who do best against better sides. 2. Super league v the rest So we can see here why spurs are still in the race for top 4, they are actually close to arsenal level there. We can see why cheslea and liveprool are ****. its agasint the "rest" LFC losses, Forest, Leeds, wolves, all bottom half **** who are in relegation danger. Everton draw. Losses to brighton, and brentford as top half teams. I mean sorry but we should be as a serious side blowing everton, forest, leeds and wolves away most of the time and brentford too. It just shows how LFC are poor. (and cheslea just as bad) 3. LFC v the top half Games played 9 Goals scored 12 Goal conceded 16 Games won 3 Games drawn 2 Games lost 4 Win ratio 33% Draw ratio 22% Loss ratio 44% Goals per game 1.33 Goals conceded per game 1.8 This is pretty much diabolical. Last season ended like this: Goals per game 2.11 Goals conceded per game 0.9 Double the goals conceded per game and nearly half the gaoals socred 4. LFC v the bottom half. Games played 11 Goals scored 21 Goal conceded 11 Games won 5 Games drawn 3 Games lost 3 Win ratio 46% Draw ratio 27% Loss ratio 27% Goals per game 1.91 Goals conceded per game 1.00 Last season: Goals per game 2.70 Goals conceded per game 0.40 just the one goal per game against the bottom half but still more than double last season, goals are down as well. 5. comparing 20/21 to this season in 20/21 when VVD and all the CBs got injured: a) this season we had a terrible start which drops the line down straight away b) this season we followed up that treble start with another flat line of a month. c) week 14 is after world cup so just before and after we see the only decent run of form we had. d) In 20/21 we had two really poor periods. 3 draws in 5 games (fulham, brighton threw points away) then the long run of cannot score stuff from Christmas to march where we won 3 in 11. e) in 20/21 we conceded 42 goals but 7 v villa so call that really exceptional and 35/36 would be a target. this season we have let in 28 already. without VVD and matip and gomez all year. williams and phillipsl will probably have let less in. think about that there is no way now bar winning 18 on the bounce to recover this season. win 14 from 18 games. = 71 points. in 20/21 we won i think 10 out of 11?
LFC record against the bottom half Games played 15 Goals scored 25 Goal conceded 12 Games won 7 Games drawn 4 Games lost 4 Win ratio 47% Draw ratio 26% Loss ratio 27% Goals per game 1.67 Goals conceded per game 0.80 the odd goal is mostly what's costing LFC, get caught on counter with no tracking runs. Concede a goal then the opponent just defends and LFC can do nothing LFC record against the top half Games played 11 Goals scored 21 Goal conceded 16 Games won 5 Games drawn 2 Games lost 4 Win ratio 45% Draw ratio 18% Loss ratio 36% Goals per game 1.91 Goals conceded per game 1.5 same story here but a back and forth game style as top half sides don't park the bus. We are conceding 1.5 goals per game against top half sides. they only need beat the initial press and they are in. In both cases we are not scoring enough goals to componsate.
This is telling the super league scabs against the other 14 clubs. LFC are 9 points worse off than spurs. The other odd thing sis the VAST majority of our gaols are being conceded against the "rest"
Liveprool results v bottom half palace 1 1 - two points thrown away from one bad break away (fab and trent fault) Bournemouth 9 0 Everton 0 0 - we could be there still and not score - really poor. wolves 2 0 Chelsea 0 0 - Poor game this one. West Ham 1 0 Notts Forest 0 1 - shocking loss. absolutely pitful Leeds 0 1 - shocking loss. absolutely pitful southampton 3 1 Leicester 2 1 Chelsea 0 0 - cheslea the better side. they could not score Wolves 0 3 - absolutely terribel form matip first 10mins then missed 5 changes we should have scored. Everton 2 0 Palace 0 0 - we could be there still and not score. it was a negative cowards display of back passing. Bournemouth 0 1 - bullied off ball, let them have one break. really poor. Leeds 6 1 Forest 3 2 West Ham 2 1 Leicester ? southampton ? IN other seasons a 0-0 might happen the odd time but Chelsea would not be bottom half the palace 2 results, leeds, forest, wolves and bournemouth results represent 16 points absolutely tossed down the pan Even taking 10 of these and adding to our 53 points were are in 3rd in the driving seat for CL. Its a huge huge amount of points against the lower half teams that have been binned by us. It just goes to show the nature of the beast. Its all the odd goal bar wolves debacle too. 16 points gone for the lack of a goal or a bit of better defence.
https://www.thisisanfield.com/2023/...-led-jurgen-klopp-to-new-liverpool-blueprint/ formations chatter
time for results this has changes about a number of times. It is a story of two halves of season. City struggled defensively for a couple months with this formation and have just flown since world cup. Arsenal have dropped off more recently and lost the two key games v city. Its losing twice to city that has cost arsenal but their defense was not good against top sides
This is a "delayed drop" over 5 games. the first big drop is Brentford 1-3 Brighton 0-3 Chelsea 0-0 Wolves 0-3 This was an awful run. The second dip is Palace 0-0 Man Utd 7-0 Bournemouth 0-1 Man City 1-4 Arsenal 2-2 basically you want to be about 1.8ppg for 4th (and we nearly are)
This is the graph of seasons The red line is this year and the dashed blue is 20/21 where we scraped 4th. the parallels are interesting. we were consistently worse than 20/21 from the first half of season but in that season we fell off an absolute cliff in December to feb.
We only got above the target for 4th twice in the season. if we balance out the games we were always "close" the odd loss here and there hurt
Games v bottom half Games played 19 Goals scored 34 Goal conceded 13 Games won 10 Games drawn 5 Games lost 4 Win ratio 53% Draw ratio 26% Loss ratio 21% Goals per game 1.79 Goals conceded per game 0.68 This is not awful but 4 losses and 5 draws against the bottom half is 22 points and the difference between 5th and 1st. 65 plus 22 = 87. in this case the difference between this year and last is actually goals scored not goals conceded (largely) The pain was Leeds, forest, Bournemouth and wolves. those losses were totally unacceptable efforts that klopp would have hated every second of and 12 points puts us on the beach now. even ****ing 4 points puts us in the box seat. Games v top half Games played 17 Goals scored 33 Goal conceded 26 Games won 9 Games drawn 3 Games lost 5 Win ratio 53% Draw ratio 18% Loss ratio 29% Goals per game 1.94 Goals conceded per game 1.5 Again this is not awful but the goals against is the issues.
84 Man City 83 82 81 Arsenal 80 79 78 77 76 75 74 73 72 71 70 69 68 67 66 Man Utd & Newcastle 65 Liverpool 64 63 62 61 60 59 58 Brighton 57 Spurs & Villa 56 55 54 53 Brentford 52 51 Fulham 50 49 48 47 46 45 44 43 Chelsea & Palace 42 41 40 Wolves 39 Ballmouth 38 37 West Ham 36 35 34 Forest 33 32 Everton 31 Leeds 30 Leicester 29 28 27 26 25 24 Saints
The ojne thing this does is just highlight how all the money in the world is not improving results for these "small sides" we have another 90 point champion here. We have currently 7 sides under 40 points. I think in ye olden days of having tight pitches or poor surfaces or whatever that HOME result s were far easier then AWAY results. As it stands now we can easily see teams whack every club in the bottom half home and away every season. imo thats the difference ver time. its much easier to get an away win cos teams cannot just kick you off the park and get away with it
