I don't tell lies and I don't like liars. What I find surprising is that Trump and Johnson both inveterate liars are tolerated by so many people. This leads me to think that people who tolerate this tell lies themselves and see no wrong in it.
Any time you cast a vote in a Federal (or general) Election, you have scant opportunity to vote for other than a liar. You know that, they know that and there's sod all you can do about it., and they know that, too.
I think people have a great ability to filter out information that is not consistent with what they want to believe. If (say) Trump is promising stuff you believe in, you can find reasons not to take on board more worrying things about the man. You can only access media that is supportive, interpret criticism of him as unfair attacks from ‘the other side’ and therefore unreliable. You don’t have to be a philandering, lying, amoral toe rag to support someone who is exactly that.
There isn’t a single politician who doesn’t lie mate. As for tolerate, until it’s time to vote there is nothing the average man or woman can do about it, it’s not so much tolerate, more you know that both sides are feathering their own nests, you just side with the one you dislike the least.
That’s odd, because LL thinks that too. But I’m only fascinated in a ‘look at this strange creature I’ve found under a stone’ sort of way.
How's your snowflake protest going outside Downing Street. Was that you the oldest hippy arrested for paint spraying.
I agree, I was contemplating the very same thing only yesterday. It would be great to have Leaders with integrity and vision who put the interests of the people above their own. I concluded that this is never going to happen but we deserve people who are closer to this ideal than Trump, Johnson and ScMo. If you rationally contemplate what they have done, let alone what they have been accused of doing, then certainly in days gone by they would have been out of a job a long time ago. The main thing that irks me is that this type of behaviour is setting a new standard for the type of politician we can expect in the future and that new bar has been set very low.
... but it helps. What you describe is called confirmation bias. And if you want to see it in practice on a daily basis, tune into the brexit thread. Or one of LLs highlight threads.
But we don't have alot of choice, do we, Eric? We don't have any of the above. All our pollies are good for is licking American arse.
I was torn whether to comment on this because these type of threads do become feisty affairs but for what it's worth: Trump is a businessman. Anyone who watched the American Apprentice show would have known exactly what he was like. He knew exactly how to appeal to the 'ordinary' American, which is why he's the democratically elected President of the most powerful country in the world. The namby pamby Champagne Socialists have been running the world for more than 20 years and the ordinary workers are sick to their back teeth with politicians. My personal opinion is that Trump is leagues above the Bushes and the Clintons as a President. I stress as a President because he's doing a job. Do you think the ordinary Americans care whether he did or didn't say this or that? No, they just want a President to make their life, as they perceive it, better. Trump is a rebellion against politicians and the more sh*t they throw at him, the more popular he will get. I haven't said anything about lying because the people don't care. George Bush told the biggest lie of all taking us and them into an illegal war because he wanted to kick some ass! So Trump has a way to go yet. Boris is also seen as a non politician so people give him the benefit. Of course he has skeletons, they all do! You say you don't lie. Really? Not even a white one when needed? "No love, you look great in that donkey jacket." If my past was dug up by a team of researchers on a mission I'd be completely in the sh*t and I consider myself to be a decent person! I never believe what I see, hear or read in the media because the truth is rarely newsworthy. Sorry if anyone takes offence, none is intended.
