Really does beg the question why various coaches were telling him not to do those - especially when you consider he was going for Modric-type passes from deep under Poch in 2017-17

Stankovic has spoken about him in glowing terms on a few occasions already and he's only been back from injury for a month or so. Although on balance, Sampdoria look abysmal, their biggest problem being up front where they have managed just 8 goals in 20 games There definitely seems to be more urgency and tenacity to his game, as well as more of a 'give and go' philosophy to his movement. I found him to be far too timid in possession and passive out of possession here. I'd imagine finally being told to find himself a new club was the wake-up call he needed, as well as suffering that long-term injury. Definitely doesn't have a future here but with some luck he'll attract enough interest that we'll pick up a decent fee for him in the summer, as he enters the final year of his contract.
Serie A seems a good fit for Winks, it’s a slightly slower paced league with probably half a second to a second’s extra time to think about a pass and I think that’s what he needs as you don’t get that in the Prem hence his lack of directness with us. It’s great to hear him doing well and hopefully something more permanent can be done for him in the summer, whether it be with Sampdoria or another Serie A club that will have noticed his performances.
At this point it really does look like Winks' passing was so ultra-conservative for us for 2-3 seasons easily not because of how he plays but we were instructing him to play that way, especially the ubermensch given the one time he passed it forward he overhit it and chipped the Ludogorets keeper from fifty yards Is he an heir apparent to Modric or Iniesta? No, not least because he doesn't have the close control they have so isn't as likely to dribble through a mid block as he is pass through it, but he also isn't the heir apparent to Ray Wilkins that various managers turned him into, which is why I've long though a move to La Liga would get his career back on track because he'd likely fit in with a Villarreal or Sociedad and do well there
