Despite being very religious (by English standards) all Indonesians are very superstitious and believe in Shaman, Witches and ghosts etc. If you fall out with one of the locals they will often try and have a spell put on you. One of our expats found a grey powder under his bed which he was informed were ground up human bones, apparently put there as part of a spell by his ex-wife who wanted him out of the picture. He said he didn't believe in all that crap but still got a white witch in to try and reverse the spell. He is still around so it clearly worked. For some reason my last driving licence here had my occupation down as Dukun (Shaman). Not sure whether it was a data entry mistake or a somebody with a sense of humour in the licence office. However I didn't get stopped once by the police for any driving offences and suspect I wouldn't have had to pay a bribe(fine) even if caught.
That’s ****ing brilliant Ima tell plod my mate on not606 is a shaman and he’s gonna put a hex on his ass if I ever get any grief off the old bill
