A few things of note... Front runner is de Wijs with 7 wins, then Bowen, da Silva and Stewart on 5 wins (though Stewart's last one was in October). Batty, Long, Samuelsen, Elder and Honeyman all have two wins, with Maddison, Lichal, McLoughlin, Eaves, Toral, Grosicki and Wilks all getting a single win. Biggest win of the season was Bowen against Preston at home, with 81 points. da Silva Lopes was the first player I can remember who's won MOTM votes with absolutely everyone voting him in top place. McLouglin and Samuelsen had a surprisingly high amount of votes considering how little they've played.
Following the cancellation of this season's MOTM, due to everyone turning out to be ****e, I've decided to make an executive decision and award this season's MOTM award to Jarrod Bowen. Well done Jarrod.
A couple of players do deserve a mention this year, Elder's been a good signing at left back consistently solid and massively noticeable when he's not in the team, Lopes has been a good signing who sadly for him has had to play out of position for the past 2 months. KLP is a ray of light for the future, but **** me he needs to be playing up front, other than that....not sure anyone else really deserves a mention. Wilks, maybe, but rather than being a good player I think he's a player who has good moments, decision making is random often runs down blind alleys....bit of a poor poor mans Walcott. Long - dreadful season by the end of it, at fault for a lot but there's part of you that thinks when it's like the ****ing alamo every game that mistakes are going to happen. Don't think he's quite the keeper we thought he was 24 months ago. Burke/JDW - great first half of the season, since the restart, look like they aren't playing for the manager, we'll get bids for both and they'll be readily accepted. Shame, there's a decent partnership there under the right management. McDonald/Taff - Not played a great deal, League 1 may just suit them, both at fault for goals last night, but telling that both care, AM gutted at the end, Taff constantly talking and shouting trying to organise. Stewart - there's a player there, I think, but not a Hull City player that's for sure, top earner so there's no way he's staying. Great first half (like a lot) but in and out since restart. Honeyman - lots of energy, not the same level of quality tho. More suited to L1 me thinks, could be a key player next year Toral - made of glass, obviously talented needs a different manager and he'll get one Batty - obviously gives a ****, which immediately puts him in the top 10% at the club. McCann doesn't really seem to like him, not sure why, he's certainly no worse than any other CM, L1 could see him really shine next year, hope he does. Samuelson - hard to tell, looks like he can control pass and move, 3 traits sadly lacking in the team this year, but also looks lightweight. Could struggle physically in L1 or shine, god knows what his position is, i'm pretty certain it ISNT on the ****ing wing, who fkin knows, needs a new manager James Scott - as above really, not seen enough of the lad, hasn't shown anything so far either positively or negatively Magennis / Eaves - Both much maligned, both been slagged to the hilt (me included), but i'm gunna stick up for them a bit here, neither of them is a lone front man, they need a strike partner with them, sadly that's not happening under McCann. Thinking back over the season, I can't really think of that many times where either of them has missed a load of sitters, I don't think as a team we've particularly created much for either of them, it seems so obvious that partnering either of them with KLP could be a classic big man little man partnership of promise, but Ehab and Terry obvs know better. Can't see anyone coming in for them, and if we persist with 1 up top, they'll continue to get slagged off next year no doubt.
I've seen enough of Tom Eaves from his Gillingham and Yeovil days to see there's a very decent lower leagues striker there. But he isn't a battering ram up front (hence the fouls) despite being 6 five, and he is clearly a confidence player. Definitely worth persisting with, as PDLF says.
Agreed He definitely needs some specialist coaching and some confidence building into him from the right coach
