Another FP Red Flag so I understand tonight? Aren’t you delighted we get charged to watch a suspended session that ticks away with zero action? Annoying!! Roll on Imola upgrades to see if anyone can make a sizeable jump- Aston and Merc in particular
Merc got handed their arse in FP2. It does make you wonder what their car will look like next season, as the design and approach of the last 2 seasons has been a monumental catastrophe
Quiet on here this weekend chaps! Not the most exciting race track for action last time but let’s see how it goes. Super interested to see Ferrari at full beans in quali here- if they back up their revival in Baku that’s very good news for them. Intrigued by Aston and Merc- I especially thought Aston would go well here.
Mercs just used more new soft tyres just to get out of Q1, they may be struggling to get into Q3 at this rate.
Charles needs to cut out these mistakes . He is undoubtedly massively talented , but it’s getting to be a concern now . I hope he’s not Jean Alesi mk2
If it’s a red flag and there’s at least 1 minute 36 seconds left on the time, why couldn’t they just remove the car have everyone line up at the end of pit lane ready to finish it? Yes, it’s going to be tight to get over before the clock runs down to zero but there’s at least 8 seconds spare to do it
At least that should add some interest to tomorrow’s proceedings. Really sad to see the McLaren’s struggling so much.
Leclerc really needs to start learning from his mistakes. It's his 6th season and he's still constantly overdriving and ending up in the wall
I quite like that they didn't restart although I'm not sure how they got away with it with the regs. Still we get a mixed up grid which is good.
Constantly? I wouldn't say that. He makes most of his mistakes in FP, which is what Schumacher used to do too. I think his reputation precedes him a bit on this, and he's certainly significantly better than Alesi. Yes, he does have a tendency to overdrive a bit, but on the flipside, he has the ability to take that Ferrari places it shouldn't be on the grid. Give him a Red Bull type car, and I don't think those mistakes happen.
I mean it's 3 times in the barriers since last Saturday. Even if you exclude practice mishaps it's clear that it happens quite a bit more to him than to the other top drivers and it was still happening when the car was quick last year. He may well be the fastest guy out there, but that talent still seems a pretty unrefined after 100+ races.
If nothing else... The grid is wonky as hell. Gutted that Charlie binned it again though. Could the stars align for Checo this season?
I get you, yeah, but then I'd rather have someone like Charles doing things above and beyond the car, than someone pootling around behind the Red Bulls. It's a tough one, and I do agree that he needs to iron out some of the mistakes. Tbh, he probably needs to not be at Ferrari in fairness.
Whilst I’m glad he owns it and is looking at how to improve, it seems to me that it it’s only when this Ferrari is actually fast and at peak performance that it suddenly becomes susceptible to this rear of the car flicking out and binning it. I’m guessing that in getting the car closer to the ground, they have improved speed but have this little bit of a tightrope under certain conditions or loads that leaves the car susceptible to a spin. Very much like the early part of last season and if you remember, when they raised floor due to rule change last year Charles stopped binning it, Sainz became faster but overall Ferrari lost pace comparable to Red Bull and Merc. The good news from all of this is a Ferrari with some real inherent pace - albeit tricky to extract! Again shows the power of the floor in this set of regs. Im almost certain RBR have a trick suspension that enables them to always be at the peak ride height. They don’t porpoise, they look planted, they ride the bumps and kerbs beautifully- they have something that few others have mastered. Merc on the other hand looked utterly horrific yesterday on a kerb, a stiff old boat of a car at the moment and surely in need of a fundamental rethink in terms of their floor/suspension.
Anyone else feeling like IQ levels are evaporating watching this Miami prelude? LL Cool J, c lister at best. Only America could exclude Sir Jackie Steward from a VIP area. Christ, I’m just a ball of rage watching this ****.
