    Managerial career[edit]
    Alfreton Town[edit]
Wilder began his career in management at Alfreton Town. He took over at the club in late October 2001 and in the 27 weeks he was in charge won four trophies: the Northern Counties (East) League Premier Division, the League Cup, the President's Cup and the Derbyshire Senior Cup.

    Halifax Town[edit]
Wilder returned to Halifax Town as manager on 2 July 2002.[7][8] He replaced caretaker manager Neil Redfearn, who had in turn replaced Alan Little (who left on 8 April after falling ill with appendicitis in March). Halifax had been relegated to the Conference at the end of the season.

Wilder was in charge at Halifax for more than 300 games until the club went into liquidation on 30 June 2008, and he decided to join former Halifax defender Alan Knill, as the assistant manager of Bury.[9]

    Oxford United[edit]
After fewer than six months at Gigg Lane, Wilder was appointed as the manager of Conference National club Oxford United on 21 December 2008[10] (replacing Jim Smith who had been caretaker manager in the wake of Darren Patterson's sacking), where he only just missed out on a play-off place in his first season. Wilder's first full season in charge of Oxford began successfully and by mid-season they were top of the Conference table by five points with a game in hand. However, Oxford were overtaken by Stevenage, who would go on to win the title and take the automatic promotion place, consigning the Us to the playoffs with Luton Town, Rushden & Diamonds and York City. They defeated Rushden & Diamonds to reach the play-off final, and gained promotion to the Football League by beating York City 3–1.[11]

In their first season back in the Football League in four years, Wilder guided Oxford to mid-table safety. The team finished 12th, in the top half of the table, their highest finish in seven years.[12] The next season Oxford finished ninth, after poor form late in the season led to the team dropping out of the play-off position they had occupied for most of the year.[13] Oxford's chairman Kelvin Thomas gave Wilder his backing, meaning he would remain manager for the 2012–13 season.[14] Despite failing to achieve a play-off place again in Oxford's third season back in the League, and intense speculation about his future at the club, Wilder was offered and accepted a further one-year contract for the 2013–14 season.[15]

On 26 January 2014 he resigned as Oxford manager with the intention of joining League Two rivals Northampton Town as their manager.[16]

    Northampton Town[edit]
On 27 January 2014, Wilder was appointed manager of Northampton Town, signing a three-and-a-half year contract. Wilder successfully battled against relegation to the Conference, after taking over the club in the relegation zone in League 2.[17] He led the side to a mid-table finish in the 2014–15 season, and then to the League Two title the following season with 99 points,[18] despite significant financial difficulties at the club resulting in players and staff not being paid during October and November 2015.[19]

    Sheffield United[edit]
On 12 May 2016, Wilder joined his boyhood club Sheffield United as their new manager on a three-year contract, following the parting of company with Nigel Adkins.[20][21] In the pre-season, despite little financial backing, he was able to bring some new players in, many of which were free transfers. He then made Sheffield born Billy Sharp club captain. However, Wilder’s League One managerial debut got off to a poor start, only gaining a single point from the first four games, which left Sheffield United at the bottom of League One.[22] Despite this, the club pushed on and went on to become League One Champions, securing 100 points in the process, a club record.[23]

His second season was full of highs and few lows. His managerial Championship debut against Brentford ended in a 1–0 win for Sheffield United.[24] Then in September 2017, United beat city rivals Sheffield Wednesday 4–2 at Hillsborough,[25] a record for goals scored by United against Wednesday at Hillsborough. By the end of October, after beating local rivals Leeds United 2–1 at Elland Road, Sheffield United were top of the Championship.[26]

On 28 April 2019, it was confirmed that Wilder had led the Blades to the Premier League following nearest rival Leeds' 1–1 draw at home.[27] This ensured his second promotion in just three years at the club. This achievement earned him the LMA Manager of the Year award.[28]

In July 2019, Wilder signed a new three-year contract with the club.[29] On 10 January 2020, Wilder signed a four-year contract extension with the club.[30] Sheffield United went on to finish ninth in their first season back in the top flight, their best since 1991–92.

On 13 March 2021, Wilder left the club by mutual consent, with the club bottom of the Premier League, with 14 points from 28 games.[31]

    Middlesbrough[edit]
On 7 November 2021, Wilder was appointed manager of Middlesbrough after the club parted ways with Neil Warnock.[32]

FAMOUS FOLK WHO WON'T BE AT THE GAME AS THEY ARE NO LONGER ALIVE

Captain James Cook FRS (7 November 1728[NB 1] – 14 February 1779) was a British explorer, navigator, cartographer, and captain in the British Royal Navy, famous for his three voyages between 1768 and 1779 in the Pacific Ocean and to Australia in particular. He made detailed maps of Newfoundland prior to making three voyages to the Pacific, during which he achieved the first recorded European contact with the eastern coastline of Australia and the Hawaiian Islands, and the first recorded circumnavigation of New Zealand.

Cook joined the British merchant navy as a teenager and joined the Royal Navy in 1755. He saw action in the Seven Years' War and subsequently surveyed and mapped much of the entrance to the Saint Lawrence River during the siege of Quebec, which brought him to the attention of the Admiralty and the Royal Society. This acclaim came at a crucial moment in his career and the direction of British overseas exploration, and led to his commission in 1766 as commander of HMS Endeavour for the first of three Pacific voyages.

In these voyages, Cook sailed thousands of miles across largely uncharted areas of the globe. He mapped lands from New Zealand to Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean in greater detail and on a scale not previously charted by Western explorers. He surveyed and named features, and recorded islands and coastlines on European maps for the first time. He displayed a combination of seamanship, superior surveying and cartographic skills, physical courage, and an ability to lead men in adverse conditions.

Cook was attacked and killed in 1779 during his third exploratory voyage in the Pacific while attempting to detain the ruling chief of the island of Hawaii, Kalaniʻōpuʻu, to reclaim a cutter taken from one of his ships after his crew took wood from a burial ground. He left a legacy of scientific and geographical knowledge that influenced his successors well into the 20th century, and numerous memorials worldwide have been dedicated to him.

Travel in hope more than expectation, if we lose just for once put in 90 minutes effort let's not go down without a fight which is the main criticism I've had in the recent surrenders, not much to ask. Times running out for Frankie suspect the vast majority of support think he should go, after tomorrow it's Fulham on Sky next Saturday the joy

    PNE Team News

In his pre-match interview with iFollow PNE, head coach Frankie McAvoy said he was “very hopeful” to have Ched Evans involved at some stage on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, defender Matthew Olosunde has had an extra couple of days in full training since the weekend’s game as he looks to push his way into contention after returning to fitness.

Ben Whiteman will be back available for selection after serving a suspension against Cardiff, while Josh Murphy, Connor Wickham and Izzy Brown remain sidelined.

There’s been a change in the dugout at Middlesbrough recently, with Neil Warnock having left his post before the international break, and in his place came Chris Wilder.

Wilder has been out of a job since March earlier this year, when his time at Sheffield United came to an end, after a successful period with the Blades which saw them promoted to the Premier League before then sealing a ninth-placed finish.

He’s now in charge of a Boro side sat 14th in the table, and they come in to this fixture after drawing their last two.

    Key Stats

Middlesbrough have spread their 20 league goals throughout their squad so far this term, with 11 different players getting on the scoresheet.

Top of the charts so far this campaign is Matt Crooks – a summer signing from Rotherham who has four goals to his name – and he has history against North End, scoring an 86th-minute winner for the Millers against PNE in November 2020.

Boro have the worst disciplinary record out of any Championship side heading into Tuesday night, having received 43 yellow cards and two reds so far this term.

    Our Last Meeting

PNE were beaten 2-0 by Middlesbrough in March in a game which saw both Alan Browne and manager at the time, Alex Neil, shown red cards.

Soon after Sepp van den Berg struck the bar with a ferocious effort, Jordan Storey put into the back of his own net and Marcus Tavernier sealed the points for his side in the second half.

Experienced EFL official Andy Woolmer will take charge of this fixture, assisted by Michael George, Mark Dwyer and Andrew Kitchen.

Woolmer himself last refereed a PNE game at the end of last season, as an Alan Browne penalty was enough to earn North End all three points away to Coventry City.

The Lilywhites tend to do well with Woolmer in the middle, having gone eight unbeaten when he has been in charge.

Middlesbrough 1 McNair Preston North End 2 Evans Riis

Middlesbrough line-up: Daniels, Tavernier, Sporar, Peltier (Ikpeazu, 83), Howson (c), McNair, Watmore (Hernandez, 53), Bamba, Crooks, Bola, Jones. Subs not used: Stojanovic, Dijksteel, Taylor, Lea Siliki, Coburn.

PNE line-up: Iversen, van den Berg, Bauer, Hughes, Barkhuizen (Sinclair, 72), McCann (Johnson, 72), Whiteman, Earl, Browne (c), Maguire (Evans, 53), Riis. Subs not used: Hudson, Cunningham, Lindsay, Ledson.

    Attendance: TBC (405 PNE fans)

    Referee: Mr A Woolmer

No idea how we won this, distinctly average for 75 minutes although they had created some chances but we were bailed out by Iversen being immense as per usual, a distinctly chilly night on Teeside saw the 405 of us who went hoping for the team to put in a performance but as per many of our recent games we flattered to deceive for long periods of this game.
We started brightly had an early chance which fell to Maguire but he took way too long to get the ball under control and the chance was lost.
Our build up was too slow and the lack of movement from the players when we had the ball was all too obvious compared to the home side who looked confident when on and off the ball
After the initial flurry Boro got on top Tavernier flashed across in from the left but Watmore just couldn't get on the end of it and we escaped for the time being
Riis got in down the left hand side but Browne couldn't get on the end of it injuring himself in collision with a home defender.
A goal looked on the cards for the home and duly arrived just after the half hour, corner McNair easily beats Hughes ball in off the underside of the bar, no more than they deserved. We rallied and could have had two penalties Riis was barged in the back nothing given and Earl looked to be brought down in the box, Mr Woolmer said no.
Boro totally dominated the last couple of minutes of the first half we could barely get the ball, from the edge of the box with four defenders around him Watmore tried to chip the Dane, he made a fine save tipping the ball over the bar.
    Booing from the away support.
Boro should have been out of sight in the second half Peltier had an effort tipped onto the bar, the Dane also saved from McNair and Sporar add i anotrher two saves could quite easily have been five down
The Boro penalty area was a no go area for vast periods of the second half until we broke away and forced a corner with thirteen minutes left, great take by Whiteman and in it went from Evans, Boro retailiated and had a huge shout for a penalty Woolmer said no again and we broe at speed Johnson into the box squared a poor ball which didn't reach Evans however some excellent inept defending by Bamba hitting the ball at McNair were it rebounded to Riis, cut past one player and ball into net, barely believable leading.
Saw the game out reasonably comfortably and left with the points
.Going four at the back with the substitutions made a difference and the experience of Ched plus having two forwards on teh pitch was also helpful, it buys Frankiee some time but still sub standard for long perods of the game

Middlesbrough manager Chris Wilder told BBC Tees:

"The result is always the most important thing for me. What happens in both boxes is key. We dominated play, possession and we created chances. We were comfortable.

"With the work that we'll do in January we will improve. But it's the era now, and we should be sitting on six points after two games and we're not.

"We've not stuck the ball in the back of the net or kept it out of the net; it's simple things.

"They've [played as] individuals. These are things [the players] need to recognise."

Preston boss Frankie McAvoy told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"I always felt if we could get a goal we'd go on to win the game.

"I spoke to the players at half-time and said 'look we've been 1-0 down before, we'll do what we did against Coventry'.

"We got fortunate. Their player makes a mistake at the end. He passes it to our player. But it's a good finish.

"The biggest thing is the team spirit. I felt like we showed that."

An amazing win. Cardiff's 2nd half renaissance was understandable but this was a mixture of brilliance and fluke, though Riis took his chance well. NE's engine consists of McCann, Whiteman, Ledson, VDB, Iverson, Riis and Earle. I just wonder if the Saturday/midweek and internationals are exhausting this fairly young motor?

Looking at the video, I do think PNE should have had 2 penalties. Boro's claim for hand ball needs closer inspection. I think the V.A.R. would have awarded NE's claim and perhaps Boro's. Maybe Browne's arm was not in an unnatural position?
