According to the SAG, it wouldn't increase the capacity at all, as we're already pretty much at the limit with regard to safe egress rates with the layout as it is.

I have no idea if that positions changed, or if it was even accurate in the first place, but it was what was claimed back when I was involved (which is a while back now).

Why not ? Much safer than standing in a seated area which is actually against ground regulations anyway

Depends which system they use. Some are but others, as in Germany aren’t. Dortmund has two terraces between each rail. Capacity for league games is around 82,000 with standing but down to 66,000 when all seated.

Yes. 4,000 stood up in North Stand would be highly dangerous. Meanwhile there are more stood behind one goal in Dortmund than the whole of the MKM holds with people walking round dispensing beer with no problems.

That was indeed what was claimed. You get the impression that they would use any reason for us not to have safe standing. No doubt this won’t be as much of a problem at other stadiums.

The football ground green guide, which dictates these things, suggest that 40 seated fans could be replaced by up to 72 standing fans.

Similar ratio to Dortmund. But there were daft mentions of the seats not being fixed up in case people needed to sit down. That would scupper things if it went ahead. No easy access to spaces if any seats were down. Could just see somebody going in a standing area because it was the cheapest then demanding to sit down and that others in front should as they were obstructing their view.<laugh>

Always amazed me that standing in a seating area with the only thing stopping you falling forwards is a plastic seat back at somewhere between ankle to knee height has been tolerated, and not yet resulted in a tragedy. Safe standing has to be better than that.

They have more space to do these things. I think Sunderland fans will be hoping for more than that.

I thought the stadium had been designed so extra rows of seats could be added at the back of the North and South stands? Seems a poor design if the exits couldn't support the extra (and yes, I know it's not your fault).

16 pitches and a fully covered pitch, and not a car boot sale, or waltzer in sight.

Why do they need 17 full size pitches?

I'm guessing, first team, rest of squad, under 18s and 21s, women's will all need 2/3 each due to squad sizes and leaving one not in use for maintenance. There will be days where more will be needed if parts of the squads are working on certain aspects etc away from main squad, GKs will use a couple of 18yrd boxes for their training. Those are just for full time, then they'll need pitches for all academy teams ( if they are based there as well )... It soon adds up

Have a guess how many pitches Fleetwood Town have at their eight million quid training facility. :emoticon-0125-mmm:
Clue, it's more than Bournemouth will have.

It could be land banking, got spare cash then buy potential development land while it's cheap. I really can't see a need for so many pitches.
