Rare foray on a Monday e/w singles and double: Plumpton 1:25 Up The Navan Road 20/1 showed nice promise in an Irish bumper, keeping on nicely for 2nd having been held up in rear. He is now with an unfashionable trainer but he has had some placed horses ridden by Tom O Brien and hopefully this is one that can make the frame too. Ayr 3:15 Trouble In Paris 12/1 Looking forward to this one upped to 3m and I believe has a race like this in him, keeping on steadily himself on a few occasions over shorter.
Although he didn’t win at the weekend one who impressed me was the Pipe’s Champers On Ice. Staying seems to be the name of the game re this one and you would imagine that his optimum trip would be some way, and I do mean some way, in advance of the 3 miles he galloped over in Saturday’s Listed heat. That run was his 2nd run over the big ‘uns and you really do have to ponder where he will go next (has Options with a capital ‘O’) or latter in the term. The race that quickly sprung to mind was the NH Chase (currently 25’s). Or perhaps the Scottish National later in the campaign. Given who trains him though (and I’m talking about the man who really makes the decisions rather than young Dave) you would have to wonder if they’d go for the Grand National this year. Probably too early (or, you could say, too late as he’d, I believe, need 3 runs over fences prior to the publication of the weights next month) but you’d rule nothing out re those rogues.
Old boy, the NH Chase sprung into my mind too and he would also have the benefit of not having Tom Scu on board either!! Needs to jump better though but has definitely got the class to win that race.
I’m sure I speak for everyone, and I do mean everyone, when I say surely the younger Mr Waley-Cohen would be ideal. I can well see him and Champers On Ice being the perfect combination.
Intresting card at Ayr today there looks like a few little gamble going on , Plumpton on the other hand looks tighter than a duck's backdoors . I did get on Bella early doors and its no surprise to see it heading the market now at 13/8 even though some might turn there nose up at the jockey .
Lochnell looks the value at 4s with Mr Johnson booked both the fav and 2nd fav may have too much to overcome
Alfred oats has drifted enough for me now at 8s and with Hughes onboard i am willing to take a chance i will also put it in a r/f with the now fav spoils of war.
Over at plumpton O'Brian gets a third bite of the cherry on hendersons talkofthesouth and 4s looks positive
Ground could have been abit heavier for him! Was very pleased with him over the weekend but will need to run from th front if he can get a lead he will be hard to pass - he can spit his toys if he gets pressured
5:00 Fuel Injection 12s Break fast and not be pestered. If jockey can ride cannily he can dictate here.
