Conflicted about the crash. Like in Austria, i still think that a car that far alongside should be given space on the outside. On the other hand, it's Monza and the entire grid was pulling the same defensive moves in the chicanes, including Max himself. Max was apparently the only person who couldn't predict exactly what Lewis was going to do. He also seemed to stay committed to the move long after it was obvious what was happening. Reminded me a little bit of the Maldonado crash with Hamilton in Valencia 2012, although i guess the curbs give Max a better excuse for rejoining the track like that.
In that case Lewis shouldn't have avoided max and gone over kerbs at turn 4! As max didn't give him space when alongside? It's a difficult one regarding space and who has right to racing line. There doesn't seem to be clear enough rules.
There was only one spot Hamilton was going to there. Max couldn't complete that move without Hamilton basically giving him the spot, which just isn't going to happen. That one's on Max for me.
Still watching and max's comment in the car after the crash! "that's what you get when you don't leave space"! I know it was adrenaline fueled but he is almost saying he did it on purpose?
If it wasn't for roll hoop and halo I think Lewis would be dead! Very scary. Not sure it was a great move for Lewis to try and reverse out. Nor was it good for max to walk across a live track even under yellows!
Well of course you should always avoid the crash if you see it coming! But yes I think Max should have been required to leave space there. Several drivers did exactly the same thing without a peep from the stewards, so I guess the understanding it's allowed and therefore Max has to back out. That does totally contract the rulings in Austria, so we're back to the issue of consistency and clarity.
Also Maxs decision to put his foot down whilst right on top of Hamilton. Yeah let's spin the tyres up whilst straddling another car, what's the worst that could happen
For me Max is more to blame but oddly I feel like if you are going to penalise them, penalise them both. No net punishment between them but put them both down the grid and remind them to be more sensible next time.
Was expecting a racing incident verdict there, but the rationale does make sense. May not make much difference in the end as Max needs to start last for engine penalties at some point anyway.
Surprised they didn’t sit on the fence and penalise both- as that would have led to both probably taking their engine penalties next week in Sochi. Instead, Lewis may have a huge opportunity to take some points off Max next week.
