Right lads, could really do with a bit (ok, maybe a lot of advice) re. 2 job offers:

    1) Small bank but very good progressive role. Work hours and pressure won't the same as a typical bank. UK based and London office (where I currently work) is small so it's difficult to carve a long term career here.

    2) Large bank - role not as good but more money. With it being a larger bank, there are a lot more opportunities across teams and locations globally.

    Any advice would be great!

my advice is take the money where its best..

if you say say that option 1 offers a 2/3 year window of great experience that would enable you long term to move higher in your career that you won't get in option 2 ok then go for option 1

If you think that you can get option 1 offer to be increased a bit by negotiation then option 1 is good as again a smaller place can sometimes be better to bargain with too.

finally if you want to progress there are two key things i would say helps. first working in different aspects and functions and second working in different regions.. option 2 seems to offer this if you can progress.

Depends what you see yourself doing in 5-10 years? Don't know how old you are but if happy to do that job for rest of your career then I'd take the smaller bank and try negotiate salary up a bit (say you have another offer but would prefer this one etc)

if you think in few years you'd want to progress or move around take the bigger job which wI'll offer more opportunities in the long run

Depends what you want out of life right now and for the next few years or however long you stay in the job. Don't know anything about your current situation but seems like you're viewing 1 as the less demanding option where you can be stable whilst concentrating on your non-professional interests and 2 as the full on work lots option.

Guess it comes down to whether you want to push your career on and earn considerable cashola and status with probable sacrifices on your personal life but the potential for business travel and / or relocation (2), or whether you want to try and devote more time to your life outside work and keep things low key (1)

Both have +ive and -ive points tbh, good luck with the decision

Large bank chances are you will be working much longer hours (depends on your role really). However, if you want the fat bonuses and the fat money go with the big one. Small one you can still make good money but for the big money you'll have to rise up the ranks to a high position.

Depends on your life preference as most people have said. More money More work.

very wise advice. One sounds like a nicer role that you like but not much after that and the other sounds like a more basic role with more money but better advancement. One also sounds just london and the other sounds like you could end up anywhere

Really it is down to as others said in 5 years looking back what will you think..

Quit banking and get a career that's reputable and helps the world, instead off destroying us.
