I was going to say something similar. It was clear early on that we were being swamped in midfield, and I felt that Ralph could have moved Stephens to right back and JWP to midfield to equalise things.
At least when we lose now it only highlights weaknesses we know about and must improve on with new recruits in the summer We don’t have 2 CBs who are good enough so we try to cover this by playing 3 but that doesn’t work when one is Jack No back up at RB JWP is sooooo slooow No Number 9 We can’t just bring JWP on for corners and free kicks We were so much better 2nd half but still had a mistake in us Watford will be tough. Not expecting anything Great to see Mario back. Took his goal so well
But it’s not a clear goal scoring opportunity. The further the distance from goal, the greater the chance to be blown in one form or another.
It's not DOGSO when a player has got half the length of the pitch to run regardless of if he's clean through or not.
Playing badly & letting Toon get the points was frustrating, but you know what else we've done? Wounded Almirion & Fabian Schar, made them safe......and given Brighton a lovely opportunity in their next game. D'oh. Is this the excitement you wanted Libby.......because I want to do a retraction!
Please re-edit the quote for my poor use of the English language. I wouldn’t define 60 yards to run with a ball as clear. For one, there was also a Saints player tracking back, and it’s quicker to sprint than it is to dribble a football.
Its a red for me, they had a clear run on goal, even if they had to jog for 50yds. Hey, in a parallel universe, Jame's gets sent off, Ralph changes the back five, we sit deep & counter, and we don't lose that game. Funny ol game.
Prowse expected a red, put it that way. Why are we anti-Brighton again? Is it Mauricio Tarrico and El-Abd?
Ralph has improved our team such that we can score and we can therefore win games, but we are not flawless and we often play a game of two halves. Ralph is new to the EPL and research does not equal experience....this combined with the somewhat erratic play of the team means that he has to make adjustments as he sees what unfolds. He is quite good at this but again can be stymied by the fact he doesn't have the players that Man City for example have at their disposal. If you look at most of our matches the opposition have several good chances, so we will lose some games if they go in. Losing to Newcastle away is not a surprise, but we at least had hope which was sadly lacking before Ralph appeared. I'm sure we have points left in us, but this is why CARDIFF MUST LOSE. It is madness to wish otherwise as things don't always work out as expected.
The ref commentating for BT said at 67 yards away it wasn’t a clear goal scoring opportunity......but say 30 yards then he would have been sent off.
Wonder what would have happened in the Liverpool game against Salah when he scored their second. I'm sure it would have been a red
The further away from the goal you are the more chance that something will intervene and stop the goal....either opposition player or incompetence by the attacking player. How often have we seen those 'he must score' situations. Can't see it being a red with a block that far out....JWP expecting a red just shows he isn't a referee.
Really hope Yann is back for the next game @Saintmagic where are you mate? Need the next matchthread up.
Having watched the game back this morning, I don't understand why once again, we are singling out players, when the whole defence was a ****ing shambles? Certain players get away with a free pass nowadays, whereas others, get everything blamed on them.
