Yes they’ve got it massively wrong - the Russians should be banned from all sporting events !

I feel a bit sorry for athletes and sportsmen trying to earn a living.
But not as sorry as I feel for people in Ukraine having their country destroyed.

At tennis tournaments in other countries we've had incidents of pro-Putin sentiments being aired.
No doubt we'll see it at the Olympics too.
Well we can't control that. But we should not tolerate it here in this country.

I know Donald Trump being arrested is a big news story to many.
But the first story on the BBC news at 6am?
Did nothing more important really happen anywhere in the World in the last 24 hours?

    Not this, according to the BBC;
The Government promised 18 months ago to spend £500m on Social Care in the UK.
An essential industry on its knees, unable to recruit because wages are so low.
Yesterday the Government cut their commitment by 50% to £250m.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-65171795

That story, which will have a massive and crushing effect on social care in this country, was given 1 minute after the 10 minutes they spent wittering on about Trump.

And then they spend 10 more minutes gushing about how air passengers won't have to limit liquids in their hand luggage anymore because of some new scanners. Including a pointless interview with a couple of women standing in an airport. Whoopie! A bit more convenience for jetting holidaymakers. Obviously way more important that the Government slashing its social care budget.
Poor judgment in my view. Lays them open to accusations that the Tories are setting the agenda now on BBC news.

You can tell I got out of bed the wrong side today :emoticon-0121-angry <laugh>

The judge's remarks are farcical. Seemed more worried about the rapist than the victim. Absolutely the text book definition of a 'slap on the wrist'.

Let’s hope he bumps into the girls father - I’m sure he’d wish he was banged up , I know you don’t like that kind of thing Lardy but in some cases if the courts can’t deliver justice then somebody has to !

Having listened to the likes of Sunak, Anderson and Braverman telling reporters they are delivering what the people want, it's odd that their election leaflets are now green, and the word Conservative is not there. They have made their brand utterly toxic, and they're reduced to pretending to be the Green party.

C4 News is much better, more in-depth reporting. If anyone tells you it's too left-wing, just ask them when they last watched it, and the reply is usually "I wouldn't watch it", which means they don't know what it's like. I also find the BBC Radio4 news is good.

It's cases like this that play into the hands of people who - often with the best intentions - want to take justice into their own hands.
That 17 year old monster repeatedly assaulted the girl over a three month period, threatening her as well.
That was not a moment of madness or a flash-in-the-pan abberation.
It was sustained and evil cruelty.
And he gets a couple of hundred hours community service? <doh>
That Judge should be struck off, or de-wigged (or whatever they should do to incompetent judges).
    A total disgrace.

Be interesting to see the sentence handed to my son’s attackers at the end of this month- hopefully the judge isn’t on holiday again !

Looks like this community sentence business is kicking up quite a backlash...

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-65173054

Apparently some new guidance was issued a few years back to make sentencing in Scotland more about rehabilitation than punishment.
In other words - looking after the needs of the criminal, and to hell with their victim(s).
270 hours of community work should be the punishment for driving without a licence or being drunk and disorderly.
Not the systematic abuse of a minor. Even for a teenage perpetrator.
The SNP should be ashamed of itself.
This isn't the first time they've been exposed as soft on serious crime in pursuit of political correctness.

Not that Westminster is any better.
Last time there was a furore about knife crime they said anyone caught with a knife would go down for five years.
    Did that happen?
    Of course it didn't.

And while I'm on about it...

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-65173499

Any convicted criminal who refuses to enter the dock to be sentenced, or gives out abuse during sentencing, should get 5 extra years (to be fully served) slapped straight onto his/her sentence.
So Cashman would be looking at 47 years before a hope of parole, instead of 42.
And for lesser criminals that extra 5 years would probably make much more difference.
    These scum must learn respect.

So few rapists get caught and convicted that when they are caught the sentences should be harsh enough to reflect the seriousness of the crime, especially child-rape.
The victim's family have been denied the satisfaction of seeing him sentenced. Maybe he should be forced to watch a video of the sentence in the presence of the family as well as being denied parole ever.

H.M. Inspector of Prisons is telling judges not to send convicts to prison. They're full up.
The detection rate of crimes is about 3% in London, 5% nationally.
So does this mean that if they all got caught there would be more people inside that out?

I'm waiting to see how this unfolds, but that is a real cat out of the bag moment. The SNP are going to have some explaining to do.

The Government has said there will be no new 'smart' motorways built, because of....
you guessed it - safety concerns <doh>

This is an absolutely prime example of just how plain dumb stupid this Government has been during the last 13 years. And how dumb stupid the previous Labour Government was to consider them in the first place.
    Motorways without hard shoulders.
Calling them 'smart' is the worst abuse of that word ever committed.

Old style motorways with a safety lane are dangerous enough. You break down, pull over onto the hard shoulder, then get the hell out of your car via the passenger door before a 20 ton artic steams along and annihilates it. But at least you got away with your life.
The safety lane is also essential for the quick progress of emergency vehicles when the need arises.
Building motorways without them is reckless.

Whoever thought of it should be prosecuted for manslaughter.
Anyone in any pub anywhere could have predicted rightly that more people would be injured and killed as a result. It's an absolute no-brainer.
