Chalk up another legal bungle to the incompetent Home Office... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-69043611 That pesky High Court. Just another facet of the Blob eh Suella?
One person killed & several injured by severe turbulence on a flight to Singapore https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c8889d7x8j4o First time I can recall turbulence killing a passenger. A study apparently shows flight turbulence increasing as the Planet warms up Passengers may need to remain belted into their seats for the entire flight on some routes in future.
I don’t know what this is about exactly, but I don’t think that actually matters. Judges should NOT stop legislation taking effect. As soon as you break the model of a separate Government, Executive and Judiciary you are ending democracy. The elected UK Government should make the laws. The UK Police should enforce the laws and the UK Judiciary should sanction those breaking the laws. It’s that simple. And if the people don’t like the laws then they vote the Government out. So to that extent Suella is right. ‘The Blob’ now runs the country, not the elected Government. And that isn’t right, regardless of which political party is in Government.
The Russians and Chinese will also have to make do with less. The latest study into how climate change will affect economic growth makes clear the realities of the situation.
It is simply wrong that someone who isn’t elected by the people and who isn’t greatly affected by the decisions he makes and which are contrary to the good of the people, should be in a position to make those decisions. I believe this legislation to be completely unnecessary and the Tories need to be voted out of Government, but neither of those two beliefs change my view that these judges shouldn’t be able to decide on this.
The judges ruling ran to 56 pages, which I admit I haven't read. They were asked to make a decision under the law, and that decision was that the government had broken the law, a law which must have been passed at some time by Parliament. Sometimes laws have to be reworded because of grey areas and we will see what happens in the appeal, but I don'tsee anything sinister here.
Nothing sinister. Just ineptitude. You'd think the Home Office employs some lawyers. Either they (the lawyers) are no good, or their advice is ignored.
Another flash-in-the-pan business rises and falls in the blink of an eye... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cjq55333xg9o I recall being surprised to see this firm appear as if from nowhere only a few years ago. Suddenly they seemed to be everywhere - buying up old petrol station forecourts, adverts all over the TV, and sponsoring football teams. Get your new car off the back of a lorry. Makes me wonder were the money comes from for ventures like this. Then it turns out the money wasn't coming from anywhere.
This lot have got some front... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ce55vp78n40o 91%? They can whistle for it. Water needs re-nationalising ASAP. It is a vital strategic resource, and at the moment the stewardship of it is in chaos. Leaks are not getting fixed properly and every river is being used as an open sewer. Half the Country is flooded and the other half is in drought. Yet still no scheme to pipe water around the UK as far as I know. Useless.
FFS, you could not make it up https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cv2274gdk10o What next, an amnesty on shoplifting? Drunk & disorderly no longer an offence? This Country is going down the toilet.
The Rev. Paula Vennels is up for 3 days questionning at the PO enquiry. More memory lapses and passing the blame. And a non-apology. That hasbeen the norm sofar.
They've got her bang to rights. She lied to Parliament in 2015, that's a fact. Nothing her weasel words now can do to wriggle out of it. But she needn't worry too much. She'll not end up facing any charges. These people never do.
One Country at a time, the Nations of the World are distancing themselves from the US / UK stance on the War in Gaza. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-69047220 Anyone with eyes can see the mistreatment of two million civilians has gone too far, and there is no end in sight. This is the worst kind of collective punishment, and nobody should feel comfortable turning a blind eye to it.
Now I see Vennells has turned on the waterworks. And has admitted she lied to Parliament. No sympathy from me I'm afraid, or credit for her very belated candour. The fact is she has nowhere left to hide. No more lies to tell, that will cover other lies. Her tears are likely ones of self-pity. It is never edifying watching somebody break down with emotion under harsh questioning. But this person and many others conspired to ruin the lives of hundreds of honest, innocent, had working folk. They did not just make a few mistakes or use bad judgment. They behaved disgracefully for year after year, bulling people from a position of power and gloating about it to each other. Believing they were untouchable. Justice of a kind is finally being done. Moral justice if not criminal justice.
Rumours are abounding that Rishi Sunak may be about to call a late June/early July General Election. I hope they are true. Shapps and Cameron have called off trips abroad. Something is apparently going on...
So far we've found out that everyone is sorry for the suffering of the subbies, but not sorry for anything they did. We've also found out that nothing was anybody's fault.
Reform holding a major press conference tomorrow apparently. GE to be called and Reform to work in tandem with the Tories. Nigel Farage next PM
