Interesting that the player portrayed as a rebel (Jack Grealish) turns up for training with exactly the same transfer talk and the darling of British football acts the rebel because he can’t get what he wants. He wasn’t complaining when he signed his 5(6?) year contract not so long ago for those massive wages. As fans we all hate seeing these players going on ‘strike’ to get what they want. Spoilt brat. Get back to work.
He did, 50%, which is the maximum that Spanish law allows (good law). Of course his wages were obscene in the first place, but apparently he just accepted the cut, no negotiation. They could have kept him, but this is a very complicated situation centred on Barca’s €1bn debt, deals which the Spanish League is trying to set up, and the European super League which isn’t quite dead yet. They, Real Madrid and Juve should be banned from European football at least until this idea is fully killed. For a club which is notionally ‘owned’ by its members this is a sad story but one that doesn’t generate much sympathy.

Congratulations Venezia FC, back in Serie A after a 19 year absence and several visits to administration. Their stadium is actually in Venice, I had to look it up on a map because I couldn’t work out where it could be - less than a mile from Piazza San Marco, accessible only by foot or boat, capacity 7,400. Great kit too, apparently sponsored by the city. This has to a a perfect away trip to take non footballing family on, plenty to do when you are at the match. But with that capacity tickets might be an issue. Perhaps I’ll wait until the inevitable relegation.
Thought this was interesting. Credit to Klopp for caring enough to get involved personally. Most of the reaction I've seen from Liverpool fans has been really positive too - most have said they don't want to offend their own and so won't sing it anymore.
Benjamin Mendy: Manchester City footballer charged with rape Published 6 hours ago Share please log in to view this image IMAGE SOURCEPA MEDIA image captionBenjamin Mendy has been remanded in custody Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy has been charged with rape. The 27-year-old defender has been charged with four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, Cheshire Police said. The charges relate to three complainants over the age of 16 and are alleged to have taken place between October 2020 and August this year. Mr Mendy, of Prestbury, has been remanded in custody and will appear at Chester Magistrates' Court on Friday. The left-back has played for last season's Premier League champions since 2017, when he joined from Monaco for a reported £52m. A police spokesman said: "Cheshire Constabulary and the Crown Prosecution Service would like to remind everyone that criminal proceedings against Mendy are live and that he has a right to a fair trial." Manchester City said the defender, who also plays for the French national team, had been suspended pending an investigation. "The matter is subject to a legal process and the club is therefore unable to make further comment until that process is complete," the club added.
Really? That's a ridiculous comment Strolls - Messi is brilliant, but to say Ronaldo isn't even in the same class is a truly blinkered statement. No matter how you feel about him, Ronaldo has to be classed up there with the very best - and his record only strengthens his case. Be interesting to see how Messi performs away from the bubble of Barcelona
They're very different players. Ronaldo wins on power and athleticism, but on pure skill Messi wins hands down in my opinion.
May be, but I admire Ronaldo, as a footballer, a lot more. He has made himself, tough family background, learned to play in different ways and develop different skills through practice and hard work, sought new challenges in different countries, and sought out leadership. Messi (not his fault) has had everything given to him from a very early age, including having a team created around him - precisely because of his supreme natural talent. I suspect neither are people I’d want to spend social time with. If they were both in the bench and my team needed a goal in the last ten minutes I’m pretty sure I’d put Ronaldo on.
