So, sell Kone and what do we have left.
O'Shea and Kaboul with no back up.
    Makes no sense at all.
    It can't happen, surely.

I can't see Moyes agreeing any movements out until we start getting them in.

The squad's paper thin as it is!!

We can't sanction any senior players moving out without having replacements in first.

And apparently, Moyes was given "guarantees and reassurances" before he signed, so that must include transfers out as much as transfers in.

Everton defender John Stones, 22, is set to join Manchester City for £50m - and the deal could be finalised this week. (Daily Mail)

If City fail to tie up a deal for Stones, manager Pep Guardiola has Juventus centre-back Leonardo Bonucci, 29, as a back-up option. (Daily Mirror)

Everton are already preparing for life without Stones and have earmarked Sunderland's Lamine Kone, 27, as a possible £14m replacement for their defence. (Sun)

THIS IS JUST STUPID KONE IS WORTH MORE THAN STONES
he's a much better all round player we can not let this happen

Don't know what the panic is about. You sign good players and they perform, club's become interested. Is this not what we want? Rather than failed signings we don't play and can't shift? It's progress. We'll sell some players, some we won't. Another good season and Kone will probably leave anyway, only we'll get more than double what Everton are offering. Short, Moyes and Bain will know this and give him a payrise.

But this is the next stage of progress, clubs come sniffing for your players and we will get frustrated when we lose good players, but that's the price for progress imo.

Lets hope we take as long selling players as we do buying them, Everton might get Kone in 2018 if they are lucky ;)

That's a bizarre team even for pre season, 3 Righ backs in?

I can only assume he's using Yedlin in midfield.

Everton have NOT lodged a bid for Lamine Kone - but the Sunderland defender does remain a target for the Toffees.
Reports today suggested Ronald Koeman's side had formally submitted a £14million bid for the 27-year-old Ivory Coast international.

But the Echo understands that is not the case.

Everton's interest in Kone, who joined Sunderland for £5million in January, is genuine though and the Black Cats could have a fight on their hands to keep one of their prized assets.

Everton's coffers could be swelled to the tune of £50million if Manchester City follow through their interest in John Stones, with Pep Guardiola confirming he is a target.

That would give them a sizeable transfer budget to go into the market to replace him and Kone is very much on their radar after an impressive start to his Sunderland career.

Kone joined in January from French side Lorient and quickly struck up a formidable partnership with Younes Kaboul at the heart of the defence.

It would be a major blow if Sunderland were to lose Kone - arguably the club's best defender - this summer but the club is in a strong position as Kone still has four years left to run on his contract.

Defence is an area David Moyes is already looking to strengthen with Kone, Kaboul and John O'Shea the only experienced centre-backs on the books.

The priority remains bringing in new players, not selling their best assets - with Moyes prioritising a new centre-back, right-back and striker.

But should Everton submit a huge bid then Sunderland would have to seriously consider it and weigh up if they could then use that cash to add a couple of players to the squad.

Premier League champions Leicester City are also tracking Kone, who took part in full training in France this morning.

I'd truly love to know how the hell they know that the interest is genuine? Is it because they read it somewhere once? Are they just guessing? No direct quotes - they've probably received a phone call from a scouser who said "Everton are interested but haven't bid for him" and taken it as gospel!!

It's the Echo so it will be from our end. Agent, someone at the club who knows but they're not going to name people and get them sacked or in trouble. Defeats the object of having sources on the inside if they're just going to expose them. No rag is closer the club than the echo, they've been in the same hotel, mixing with the team since we went to france.

Funny, HITC, The Star, Mail, the Sun, the ****tiest jackanory gutter press, they say anything and it's panic time. Yet the one single rag who could actually receive inside info get questioned. <laugh>

Could have easily come from Moyes to Marriner direct over breakfast. Don't see the point of questioning the one rag who's loyal to the club.

Meanwhile, reports suggest Everton have identified Anderlecht centre back Kara Mbodji as another option to bolster their defence.

He could be available for as little as £6.2million.
