Norwich v Swansea Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - Carrow Road Date - 27 April 2024 Kick off - 3pm Following their impressive 4-0 thumping of relegation threatened Huddersfield Town, next up for Luke Williams’ Swansea squad is their final away match of the season at Play-Off hopefuls Norwich City. Last Saturday, Huddersfield’s hopes of avoiding relegation from the Championship were dealt a heavy blow as they were thrashed at home by the Swans. The Swans, already safe and with little to play for, had the better of a goalless first half as Jay Fulton and Liam Cullen wasted good chances. Cullen hit the post after the break with a curling effort from the edge of the penalty area, before substitute Jamal Lowe cut in from the left and found the bottom corner with a firm right-footed shot. Huddersfield substitute Danny Ward struck the post as the home side tried to salvage a point, but Ronald made sure of victory for the Swans as he finished off an incisive counter-attack. Swansea scored twice in added time to deepen their opponents' misery, with Jerry Yates converting from close range before fellow substitute Liam Walsh found the top corner with a beautiful strike. As a result of this 3rd successive win, the Swans sit 14th in the table, level on points with 13th placed Sunderland who have a better goal difference. Whilst the Swans were beating the Terriers, Norwich remained in a strong position in the Championship play-off race despite being held to a frustrating draw by Bristol City at Carrow Road. The home side squandered a number of first half chances before going behind to Haydon Roberts' strike after the break. Borja Sainz levelled minutes later, but David Wagner's side were left frustrated as a run of eight straight home wins came to an end. Norwich are now in sixth, 3 points clear of Hull. The Swans have played the Canaries on 60 previous occasions, winning 25, losing 25 and drawing 10. In the corresponding fixture last April, the Swans romped to a 3-0 win: Turning to tomorrow, I think that the Swans - on current form - are more than capable of returning to South Wales with a point, but I expect Norwich to win 2-0, leaving them with an anxious wait for tomorrow evening’s Hull v Ipswich match. If Hull fail to win, Norwich will be in the play-Offs. Although, as Norwich have a far superior goal difference, victory tomorrow over the Swans would all but seal their Play-Off place. Hope I’m wrong and that the Swans win
They've got everything to play for and are at home... Our 3 win run has flattered us a bit anyway, so back down to earth I reckon. If they get on a roll early enough it could be a romp, 4 - 1.
Massive being massacred 4-0 by QPR: Leicester promoted. Looks like Ipswich are clear favourites for the second spot. Leeds and Southampton in the Play-Offs.
Nice way for QPR to sign off at home but a surprising result. Agree Ipswich for second and good luck to them. Play offs will be interesting and a bit of a lottery really... I have a feeling West Brom will upset somebody, they should have beaten Leicester last week.
Matt Grimes is set to make his 300th Swansea City appearance as head coach Luke Williams names an unchanged side for this afternoon’s clash with Norwich City at Carrow Road. The skipper brings up his latest milestone in a Swans shirt a little over nine years after first joining from Exeter City in January 2015. He is part of a Swansea line-up that shows no alterations from that which started wins over Stoke City, Rotherham United and Huddersfield Town. Carl Rushworth is in goal, with Josh Key, Josh Tymon, Harry Darling and Ben Cabango making up the defence. Grimes and Jay Fulton continue together in midfield, with Ollie Cooper operating ahead of them. Jamie Paterson and Ronald will look to provide service from the flanks while Liam Cullen leads the line in attack. Swansea City: Carl Rushworth, Josh Key, Jay Fulton, Ben Cabango, Harry Darling, Matt Grimes (captain), Jamie Paterson, Josh Tymon, Liam Cullen, Ollie Cooper, Ronald. Substitutes: Andy Fisher, Jerry Yates, Jamal Lowe, Charlie Patino, Mykola Kuharevich, Nathan Wood, Liam Walsh, Bashir Humphreys, Azeem Abdulai.
