Not really sure I should say, mate. I prefer to be modest and humble about these things. Saying as though you've asked though, I'll explain. The trophy was for an outstanding moment throughout the season. It could be an amazing shot, innings, run out, anything really. We had a quarter final game and we batted first and scored 127. The team chasing were 122/6 when I started my over. My first ball was creamed through extra cover for 4 taking them to 126/6. I then took 4 wickets in 4 balls to win us the game.
One of only 3 stand-out moments in cricket, for me. My little bro is the better player, he was on Durhams books. Football was definitely my number 1 sport.
As an ex fast bowler I think cricket favours the batsmen too much. The way the pitches are prepared in this country now is a tragedy imo You go watch any local league team now and the guy who has no bowling skill per se, just slowly trudges to the crease and lobs one in the air gets the wicket whereas the guy who steams in smooth and sleek sees the ball hit the deck and basically die
i was a batsman usually going in at about 4/6 and i used to keep wicket. Dabbled in bowling as you do but i wasnt very good.
I was a average medium pacer who, when things got really desperate, could spin it a bit. I used to think i was a decent batsman as I played all the shots but had zero control so was more akin to Harmison batting whilst in my head I was Gower. Poor average but high striking rate. I once took three wickets in an over (not a hat-trick) all of which were catches, a couple from very poor balls. Still felt great. I was horrific in the field.
Played till I was twenty then stopped when I moved to Wales. Did try carrying on for a bit but hit the piss on Friday nights too much and that was that. Was decent, even if I do say so! Could bat open or down to four and was a decent quick bowler. Have considered playing some seniors stuff at the club my boys play at but it takes up too much time and it's hard enough getting a round of golf in. Love the sport. It depresses me a bit that so few kids now take it up and that football rides roughshod over the season.
Having watched kids football and cricket I know which I prefer my kids doing. Too often football brings out the vile aspect in onlookers, they're shamelessly worse than the kids. Cricket just had a much much better atmosphere as a parent.
Friday night's training is best, sit there having a civilized pint in the sun watching them practice. The matches are too early on a Sunday morning to do that, unfortunately.
