For those of a certain age, the actor Francis Matthews who played Captain Scarlet and Paul Temple in the TV version of the famous radio series has sadly passed away. He was in many Hammer Horror films and TV dramas. He had a fantastic voice though it would probably sound quite old fashioned these days! Finally, despite the cut glass version of a Cary Grant accent, he was born in York!

    RIP Captain Scarlet!

I saw him in Samuel Beckett's (two t's) Endgame a few years back, I couldn't believe how good a serious stage actor he was. Rather oddly, and not so long back, he even admitted that he left the cast of Allo Allo! far too early...a good character actor!

    RIP

Funny you mentioning Cary Grant. It was someone hearing him do an impersonation of Cary Grant which lead to him being offered the Captain Scarlet part.
How more pleasant to listen to a voice like his than the estuary English, glottal stop stuff we hear so much of nowadays.
Paul Temple showed a glamorous lifestyle which was worlds away and the exotic, to us back then, locations made it a must see.

It would never be allowed now. Boss honky is Colonel White, arch badman is Captain Black, the Angels just sit round looking pretty like barbie dolls.

There was no Captain Pink or Rear Gunner Brown.
