Adam Cooper ‏@adamcooperf1 So McLaren confirms that its car has passed all the FIA crash tests, so concerns about not making Jerez are over
Caterham F1 Team ‏@CaterhamF1 3m So, our driver line-up for T01 is @Ericsson_Marcus on days 1 & 2 (28th / 29th Jan), @RFrijns on day 3 (30th Jan) & @kamui_kobayashi on day 4
Why are they giving Frijns a day? Kobayashi's pretty much a semi-rookie with the regulation changes and having a year out. They need as much time in the car as possible.
If Frijns performs to his full ability in F1 it would either help Caterham with gaining a major sponsor to replace Kamui or Erricsson, or a higher up team are willing to pay his out-clause.
MERCEDES AMG F1 ‏@MercedesAMGF1 22m Meanwhile, we can also confirm the driver line-up for Jerez testing next week: Lewis Day 1, Nico Day 2, Lewis Day 3, Nico Day 4...

Force India and STR copying Merc and getting in a pre test shakedown in: Toro Rosso and Force India both gave their 2014 Formula 1 cars their first runs on track on Friday. Force India carried out a day of 'promotional' running with Nico Hulkenberg driving the new VJM07 on the International circuit at Silverstone. The team released a side-on teaser image of its 2014 design earlier this week. Toro Rosso used the Misano circuit in Italy to do some filming work with its new STR9, the team's first Renault-powered car. Jean-Eric Vergne and new team-mate Daniil Kvyat both had turns behind the wheel. Neither team released images of their cars on track.

Renault will take conservative approach to start of 2014 F1 season Renault engine chief Rob White "You find you have to make a different priority decision," White told AUTOSPORT. "You have to absolutely assure that you get to where you are going, and you have to accept some compromises. "You have to make some of the choices without having all the information that you would like to make those choices, which means you have to take a slightly different approach in managing the risks. "So you take a slightly more conservative approach than you would do. And, as we speak, the jury is still out in whether those choices are good ones or poor ones." "We will be in first test guise," he said. "It is close to first race guise, but not exactly the same. "We have some stuff that is a work in progress, and that will be delivered between the first test and the first race. There are also parts which are in place that need to be finally checked out in the car. "But there is still quite a lot of learning to do, and I think that will come through in the way in which the test sessions pan out. "I am absolutely convinced that it is going to be very much about rehearsing the race events; rehearsing everything we need to do with the new toolkit, the new cars, in order to be ready to go racing in Melbourne." "We've passed some significant milestones, and not quite done everything that we would have ideally liked to do," said White. "But there comes a time when you swap from the mode in which you are doing as much as you can to learn as much as you can as quickly as you can, to counting backwards from the first important event. "You work out what is necessary and you rejig the planning in order to make sure that everything that needs to be done fits into the available time."
Does anyone know if the 5 engines per season includes the pre season testing? If it does then this season is going to be great. Imagine how many penalties for extra engines there are going to be? That might spice up the grid.
Good because it was annoying in that distance was limited as the tyres were so **** during testing because the track was too abrasive.
