That midfield does not fill me with any hope at all, Power, Scowen or Dobson are no basis for change imo.

Agree mate. Must start winning football matches in order to breed confidence again. It's been a long time since we won and the bad thing is we haven't played anyone half decent in that time.

I suppose realistically you wouldn't play a totally different 11, a bit of experience in defence and CM would be a good idea. It's more our young attackers that haven't had a fair crack of the whip isn't it and we desperately need better attackers in the first team if any of the kids are up to it.

Game like this is a free hit. Last thing you want to do is risk any of your key players getting injuries. I'd definitely play Matthews, McLaughlin, Power, Dobson, Maguire
    Graham and Grigg

    https://safc.com/news/team-news/2020/december/hume-ruled-out-of-action
Denver Hume is set to be out for three to four weeks after picking up a hamstring injury against Wigan Athletic, Lee Johnson has confirmed.
Jordan Willis will also be unavailable for Tuesday’s trip to Oldham Athletic as the defender continues his rehabilitation, but Charlie Wyke will return to the matchday squad.
The Lads’ leading goalscorer, who missed Saturday’s defeat due to a knock, has netted eight times in 18 appearances this campaign.
Speaking to safc.com, Johnson provided the latest from the treatment room ahead of his second game in charge of the Black Cats.
“Denver picked up a hamstring problem and my guesstimate is that he will be out for three to four weeks with that,” said the Head Coach.
“It's frustrating because it's a muscle injury. In six weeks' time, I'll take responsibility for those.
I don't want to see muscle injuries, but in this time of Covid muscle injuries have been up 45 percent across the board, really, from the Premier League down to League Two – it's a byproduct of having so many games in quick succession.
“Charlie should be alright. It was just a knock to the knee,” he continued.
“I've spoken to Charlie today, I really like him, he is a good player and I'm looking forward to getting him back and trying to get the best out of him, so he will be in the squad tomorrow.
“Jordan had an injection in his knee and he has had historical problems with that knee.
“I've seen him out running on the training pitch although I haven't had the pleasure of coaching him yet, because he is still in the rehabilitation phase of his comeback.”

It will be interesting to see how Johnson plays this ,will he give the young lads a run to see what he has got, or will he play the senior players and try and get them playing the way he wants, albeit he has had minimal time on the training pitch with them. Wyke is in the squad so Johnson will be able to witness his "pace and power" first hand. He has already seen the "pace and power "of Grigg and Graham.

If Sanderson cannot get into the back 3 or 4 I would play him in midfield or upfront. He is way better than us in my humble opinion. Nowt to lose by trying it.

mate i don't think they could inflate a balloon between them, i think they would shy out of a race with the over 60s care home and when Johnsons sees what he's got in these three they wont play again

We need a win so must play a team that should WIN we are on such a downward spiral , we have started accumulating injuries , confidence is low and the club needs a boost . We have to end this downward spiral NOW even if it is only the EFL Trophy I see it as a must win game .

LJ confirms that Patterson and Sanderson will start. Mcgeady to get minutes off the bench too

These are the games when Patterson should always be playing - if they aren't going to loan him out, play him in the cup games. Can't be any worse than the human polo mint that is Remi Matthews

Given the injuries we have, and that Johnson will want to have a look at which of the under 23's can step up, I think it will be a youthful look to the side, but McGeady will get some minutes for fitness off the bench by the sounds of it. Be good to see Curry get an opportunity hopefully and see if he's ready.

Maybe he should go back to the team that demolished the Aston Villa U23s.
Gooch, Feeney & Xhemajli are injured but could be replaced with McGeady, Sanderson & Almond.
