Hi all, I put this on our board yesterday and have had an excellent response. I've been prompted to put it on here too, in the hope of getting a few more hits. 2 years ago, we lost our younger brother to a brain tumour, since then in his memory we have been fund raising for Brain Tumour Research, who are vastly under funded. Brain tumours are the biggest killer from cancers of under 40's on our island yet only 1% of government cancer research money goes towards it. We had mostly been raising money through music concerts, his main passion, but obviously with shut down these have come to a stop, so I and a couple of friends are doing a charity walk along Hadrian's Wall next week to try and raise funds. The total walk will be around 105 miles, an average of 17.5 miles per day. If anyone could see their way to dropping a couple of quid or euros it would be much appreciated Many thanks for reading. https://www.justgiving.com/fundrais...app&utm_term=3ad36634a71040a99d7c14d5a8d6fff6
So sorry to hear of your loss mate and am happy to contribute, hope the walk goes well. The lack of availability in this country for gamma knife treatment for this awful disease is costing lives. **** cancer.
Thanks Tobes really appreciated And what you say is 100% correct, we researched everything and what is out there is very little, we just hope everything we can raise will go towards improving this. With our kid it was an odd one, he had what is known as a CUP , cancer of unknown primary, when they removed the tumour, to their great surprise is wasn't cancerous, the cancer was coming from somewhere else but it was so minute they couldn't find it, all they knew was it was from the stomach area because of the type of tissue found in the tumour. Unfortunately 12 months later it came back with a vengeance and he had 5 small tumours develop and there was nothing that they could do. Last year the research team got the breakthrough in finding if a tumour is cancerous or not through a blood test, if the follow up is successful it will mean many people will find out the news without surgery, fingers crossed it happens, and this is what the research money is going towards.
Me neither, it will be a first, did some training in The Cheviots last week, first time there too and they were brilliant. Appreciate your donation mate, means a lot
Hope it goes well...it's a great thing to do in memory of your kid brother. Sorry for your loss mate.
Thanks for the donations fellas. Anyone any knowledge of Carlisle, going to start early-ish on Sunday so we watch the England game. Any pubs anyone can recommend to watch it or just importantly any to avoid.
Thanks again for the donations Anyone else who can spare a couple of quid, it would be greatly appreciated. Day 1 complete. 16.23 miles, mainly flat so only took just under 5 hours, managed to get into Carlisle to watch the game too.
18.5 miles today, last 7 were fairly tough, lots of up and downs on the crags, 2541ft of climbing on the last 7 miles alone. Gonna sleep tonight, especially after we've just found a boozer that brews its own ale.
Another 16.5 miles done, opposite way round today, tougher part was at the begining, last 3-4 miles was mostly road and pretty boring tbh.
Job done 19.11 miles today finished in Wallsend , Geordie land. Total 105.86 miles for the week. Off out soon to find a pub fot6the game. Thanks once again for the donations, anyone else who could throw a couple of quid its way, it would be greatly appreciated.
