Only joking, dunno if this has been posted but it's worth a second look anyway. After some of the wasters and workey tickets, we've had at the club, this lad is a credit to SAFC.
What a marvellous man he is, and someone that the young-uns can look up to . . . . we should all be proud to have him as our captain
Soon after signing he turned up to help with installing the red seats and got talking to a bloke who didn’t seem to believe he was a player. The calm, friendly way he tried to convince him made me think he was a class act and he’d make a great captain.
Amazing human being and so proud he represents us week in week out. Look at him then compare with Rodwell, Graham, Gibson and on we go. Exactly what the young players need.
I'm rarely amazed, by football clubs, especially ours ... ... but I will be if SAFC don't engage him at the club when he stops playing.
Good interview. He's come a long way since he was withdrawn at half time in his first game against Charlton. He looked like he'd been watching videos of Benno the way he went storming up the pitch at Boro!
The further Benno carried on, building up momentum, the more we laughed ... ... by the end of one of his runs the Fulwell End would be in tears. I did think about that on Sunday, brought back some great memories.
It was the first thing I thought of. The further up he went and closer to the box he got I was half expecting him to chip the ball over someone's head and then volley it goalwards!
I remember when he first signed. He had a personal coach I think who said he will do whatever it takes to be his best. Talked about always dominating his 1v1 opponent. I thought at the time that sort of attitude is invaluable. He still has it, nothing has changed as he has got better and better with us. I still see that determination in him to improve, be the best he can be and commit to the cause. We all know loads of players whose careers did not reflect the talent they had. This lad wrings every last drop out of his talent, and if you wanted someone talking to young lads about how to succeed it would be him. Class act.
Great interview that. 09 has done extremely well and he has maximized the opportunities through hard graft and living as a complete pro. A role model for every young player coming though the ranks. I see him having a career in the game (if he chooses) once he hangs up his boots, speaks incredibly well.
What a credit he is (to himself and SAFC), not just as a player, but as a thoroughly decent, grounded human being. Always speaks well, and always comes across as incredibly humble and genuine. Thanks for posting @Smug in Boots, enjoyed that.
What a refreshing chat for a modern day footballer. Witty, determined, very appreciative of the life that football has offered him and by god he's going to grab it with both hands. Most importantly though he shows a trait that is missing in many folks today, but more so in footballers, humility. A real asset to this club.
Luke at it again - what a lad, great advice for the young lads released by the club https://x.com/LukeONien/status/1794807177397379127
Liked him from the day he walked in our club. Proper attitude. Hope he is still here when we get back in the premier League.
I wouldn't be surprised if he could step up to it. He was one of our only players to look at home that time we played Saudi Arabia. More to that lad in a footballing sense than he gets credit for.
A true leader is Luke, l believe playing in front of a back three is his real home , he has all the attributes to succeed there for me. ATM he is irreplaceable in our first eleven and like has been said he is capable of leading us back into the premiership. A balanced squad around him would help, which we patently don't have at present, but are a tweak or two away imo.
