I'm looking for some recommendations for a nice place to eat in the local area. Doubt there's anything in hull town but I don't want to travel too far. Somewhere nice to take the mrs what does good food, I'm sick of going out and having second rate food. I'm sure some of you will have more of a clue than me.

    Thanks

Bombay Duck is both an indian and chinese all you can eat buffet on Hessle road - not sure if thats the kind of thing you are both after -
Personally i dont eat chinese food but who i was with said it was lovely - as for the Indian - curries i tried 4-5 of the hotter ones and they were all great -
The Vindaloo wasn't especially hot but it was damn tasty . Side breads were of a better quality than any of the more established Indian restaurants ive been to locally .

If you're looking for posh nosh ill read with interest myself for future reference ;)

    Indian:

Barinda on Boothferry Road won curry chef of the year:

    Chinese:

Not fancy, but the food is amazing in Wokkas opposite St.Stephens.

    Regular:
The Laundry on Princes Ave is meant to be very good.

Larkins on Newland Ave is good for food.

Also, not sure if it's open yet, but this is meant to be fancy on the marina...

it's owned by the former head chef of Hull Truck, he was getting rave reviews, but left to start this.

As is The Wilson on the marina...

If you fancy splashing out then Boars Nest at Rudstone Walk, South Cave.

It's the one that used to be on Prinny Ave.

It is fine dining, so depends what your budget is - Scooter's probably been.

Also, please all feel free to boycott Valencia in Beverley - opposite the railway station.

The arsehole who owns it stiffed me over an unpaid bill for work i did for him a couple of years ago - twat.

I'd like to see him go bust.

I always thought central Hull was ****e for restaurants, but it's improved over the last couple of years.

I've been to Cook's Endevour a couple of times and the food has always been very good http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g186317-d1497176-Reviews-Cook_s_Endeavour_Restaurant-Kingston_upon_Hull_East_Riding_of_Yorkshire_England.html

Been to The Wilson on the marina once and I'd recommend a visit. http://thewilsongastrobar.co.uk/

If you just want good food and you're not bothered by the surroundings then Yinjibar does the best Chinese. Not been for a little while but its on charles street near the new theatre http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g186317-d1935995-r129418939-Yinjibar-Kingston_upon_Hull_East_Riding_of_Yorkshire_England.html

Then there are also a fair few decent bistro type places around town these days. Linley's and Pasaz spring to mind.

Of course Prinny and Newland ave is the 'happening' area at the moment. New places seem to be springing up all the time. Just noticed the old Pier Luigi's is being renovated as a new venue right now. Not been to them all round there and too many to list here, but Brimbles, The Laundry, Marrakesh, Fudge and Larkins are worth mentioning.

Basically, you don't need to venture to Beverley to find a decent eatery these days, so stay loyal to Hull.

Boar's Best or Boar's Nest? - the latter used to be on Prinny.

I'd agree. The squid is excellent. Melts in the mouth.

Ordered a lager, he asked which ones, i said what you got and he did this sigh eyes to the heavens look, as though it was too much trouble!! So i made him repeat em again as i cant here you the first time mate bit. ****er.

I went when it was Prinny Ave - no change from 150 sheets for 2 and it was just ok.

Wilsons Cafe on the Marina is pretty good, 1884 has the same owners, it wasn't open about 6 weeks ago - but may have changed.

There is also a Thai restaurant down Anlaby Road from the KC, no idea if it is any good, but it does look decent. If you fancy a ride out of town then the Bricklayers in Laxton is superb.

If anyone ever wants the best steak ever.....check out the Rythre Arms....Amazing.

If you don't mind venturing into East Hull I always recommend Maharajah on Holderness Road, New World is quite decent too.

I agree it is good. Like the fact the bloke who owns it was a labourer on a building site for years before he took the plunge.

My only quibble with Italian restaurants is 12 quid for lingini, you get 6 King prawns and pasta thats a massive mark up. Pasta is peasant food FFS.
