Right lads , as some of you may or may not know I'm seriously considering moving to Newcastle next year for academical reason (and of course NUFC :) ) Was very impressed by Northumbria and Newcastle Universities.

Parents want me to stay put here in Belgium but I really want this to happen and wanted to know from the people that live up there how living there is.

Is it as university oriented as they say it is? Are costs for students etc. high? So on and so on.

I've been to Newcastle about 8 or 9 times just for games but don't think it's enough to feel how it is to live there.

    Help would be much appreciated!

    :D

I lived their for a year with a couple of my mates who went to Northumbria Uni. Jesmond is clearly the place to be.

We lived 10 seconds from the West Jesmond Metro. Osbourne Rd is round the corner. Uni is 10 minute walk away.

Cost us £325 a week...but that is top end.

    Get yourself there. Awesome.

Can't advise on living there, but the quality of any university depends on which course you do. It can be brilliant for one course, bollocks for another. Make sure they specialise in what you're interested in.

Newcastle is a fantastic student city. I would've gone if I wasn't from here (wanted to try somewhere else). The student bits are really fantastic - the accommodation is city centre, I really can't recommend it enough. What course are you applying for? I'd also really recommend Birmingham and Sheffield (where I actually go)

Yea of course. I want to do Marketing management read good things about Northumbria and Newcastle uni when it comes to that course. In fact the Newcastle Business School (which is part of Northumbria) was very impressive.

If your going into halls, the prices are generally more expensive than going private. However the contracts are shorter (usually 38weeks Newcastle and 43weeks Northumbria) than private contracts (usually around 50 week).

As for cost of living in the area, it is cheaper than what some of my friends are paying in Sheffield/Leeds/Manchester.

Forgot to add if you end up at Northumbria. Parrish Court is in Byker and Marleen Court is in Heaton, so you may have to take into account metro fees although it is walk-able/bike-able.

    You know me too well!

But seriously the education is top notch and both universities are renowned for their excellent business degrees.

Hi Mate, I actually do Marketing Management at Northumbria in my final year. Would definitely recommend it. If you have any questions at all fire them over!

    Brilliant!

What's it like? Difficult? Does it involve a lot of writing? ( I hate that lol) As interesting as I think it is?

Might ask you a few more things in the future if you don't mind!

You'll have your own personal secretary sitting on your knee taking notes after you've been there 5 minutes, you won't have to do any writing.

Jesmond can be beaten actually - there's plenty of great places to live and for a hell of a lot cheaper than £325 a week. Yes, it's an up market area but expensive and hardly any pubs.
