The "big" clubs don't always get it their own way, e.g. Saltypool at Spurs, Arsenal have had some go against them - can't recall when but seen Arteta expel Teddy from the pram on a few occasions - and Pep115 must have had the odd one against him. The difference is their numbers are very low compared to others - Wolves and Forest for example rarely seem to be in VAR's good books. Looks like there was a contentious one at Falling Down Trafford last night when the ref was ordered not to review the monitor. Unfortunately what seemed to be a help to the game has become a major hindrance with reviews done over the most minor points and decisions made as a player had a size 11 boot when a size 9 would have seen him onside. Other than dumping VAR - very unlikely - I'm not sure how this will end.
I'm pretty sure they do get more right than wrong but I'd be in favour of a tennis style 'appeal' system instead... say 2 appeals each half where the benches can tell the 4th official they want a review of a particular action/passage of play. If your appeal is successful you get to keep your 2, if it goes against you, you are down to 1 then 0... Would have to be stipulated that it's only for goals/penalties/serious fouls.... hopefully that would also mean we return to the assistant referees (lines folk) actually putting their bloody flags up for offside as it happens then rather than waiting for a passage of play to end before they then confirm the bleeding obvious!!! Drives me mad that one.... I also think it's high time the 4th official had their own space that the coaches/staff etc aren't allowed into - hopefully that'd stop the disgraceful scenes that we saw with Jurgen the German screaming in that poor 4th officials face (jeez, I hadn't realised I was such a fan of match officials, I'm usually far less protective when I'm watching a game ).
No no no that would be even worse. It’s bad enough in cricket with lazy umpires not looking for the no ball or run outs/stumpings as every wicket is reviewed. But if a captain makes a wrong call and left with no reviews then wickets that were wrongly called on the field remain so. That’s a ludicrous situation. Likewise for tennis. To have limited reviews in football is just not practicable or feasible. The ref/ lino makes a decision on field and there it should remain regardless. VAR is an experiment which has got worse each season. It’ll be the same as some crazy idea for driverless cars - I mean just plainly bonkers
Four people running the line is the answer each in charge of one section from halfway to goal line. Might help with offside decisions.
Or an official running alongside each player keeping an eye on things. Offsides, fouls, dives, the lot.
Known for his extensive football career spanning roles at Inter Milan, DC United and David Beckham's Inter Miami, his arrival marks a significant step for the club. Unfortunately it's Wrexham appointing a new CEO. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/ryan-reynolds-makes-huge-wrexham-29194879
They're looking a far more progressive club than us. Who'd have though about heading up your footballing business with someone with experience in football.
Absolutely. I've nothing but admiration for them. Great for the long suffering fans and the community as a whole. And you're absolutely right about the owner acknowledging he knows nothing about football and getting someone that does to help.
Assumedly they’ve taken proper advice on how to structure a football club for its advancement. Maybe Tan should listen to what everyone is saying and learn.
Best of luck to Wrexham who are showing footballing ambition, but there's a totally different situation at City. On the one hand we have an extremely supportive owner who up till now has taken the financial hits personally. Though the recent movement towards external borrowing is worrying, Vince still insists upon taking major footballing decisions personally. That's going to take a massive shift in approach. Secondly and given the above, any self respecting potential DOF with a clear understanding of the recent history and present situation at the club would be very apprehensive in taking on a role in which he could be seriously undermined. Let's face it, Dalman and Choo are Tan men. Unless they accepted their title roles as Chairman and CEO respectively as being just that, any new footballing kid on the block would feel uncomfortable with those two still breathing down his neck.
That’s a valid point. However can one see Tan even contemplating such an appointment when he seemingly relies on the footballing expert Dalman
The Premier League eh! 32 points from 38 games and Forest survive comfortably. The three that went up are straight back down...Bluebird stylee
This was a record scoring PL season beating the previous record which was a 42 game season - the bar is so high but a pitiful performance by the 3 relegated clubs, especially Sheff U. They’ll probably be favourites to go up though with Burnley and either Leeds or Saints; unsure how Luton will fare though?
