One thing I have to say about Roland Duchâtelet, is that I've started watching other sports, with my general disgust about what's happening at Charlton. Unable to properly support another football team, means I have to take interest in other sports altogether. Been doing a lot of streaming on Toronto Maple Leafs games, really got into NHL. Have to say my understanding of Ice Hockey is getting better. How many of you taken to watching "other sports?" FYI- if anyone's watching the Maple Leafs game against Detroit Red Wings, not a bad concert with Bryan Adams between 1st and 2nd Period.
There are other ways to watch other than Sky... I actually hate them, basically monopolised all sport on the UK. Surely you like Golf or Darts @ForestHillBilly
And this is why Ice Hockey is brilliant. And they only get 5 minutes in the box... and they were proper punches thrown. Not this sissy **** we get in football. Have to say never watched darts. What's the appeal?
Always been a cricket fan, but no other sport compares with football. Watch a lot of Italian football as my interest in overhyped premiership is waning. Napoli and Roma in particular are great to watch. Recently got Kodi so no longer contributing to the silly tv money.
If you want intensity this Maple Leafs game has it all... 7 goals in the third period which has brought it into Over Time. Talk about Great Game.
The Ryder Cup used to be my favourite TV of the year, really miss it. Even The OPen is going from terrestrial TV next year. The 6-Nations is pretty good, there's the Olympics once every 4 years, Wimbledon we've still got, I got fed up with darts after Syd Waddell left.
Cricket, boxing, MMA, baseball.. Think that's it. Can watch a bit of the snooker too, but don't follow it enough to know about it. Formula 1! Almost forgot that. Used to have to cover motor cross at sky for a bit, but hated it.
I like Football, Cricket, Tennis, Golf, Snooker, Athletics, a bit of Darts. I couldnt do without Sky but am a hypocrite as I don't believe that Sky should have the Monopoly. on all the Sporting events.
Are any of you actively going there to these other sports because you dispise Roland and Katrien? Maple Leafs won in overtime in a spectacular game... Rookie Auston Matthews slotted it home, amazing finish with tonnes of passion.
My passion other than football is horse racing, particularly National Hunt. Absolutely love it and the characters that surround it.
How could I forget tennis - especially after the year Murray has had Nothings changed since KM. Was always in to sports as a kid and continued. But I still dislike her if that helps
Are you a fan of AP McCoy's adult erotica novels @Royston?? Guess that is a character surrounding horse racing.
Yep: https://www.waterstones.com/books/reviews/isbn/9781409129585#review-18293 Parts are quite on the blue side.
On the whole I think the standard of sports journalism has gone down. Many football reports tell you nothing about he game, only excerpts from the post-match press conferences. Great reporters like John Rafferty on boxing, Hugh McIlvanney on football, boxing and horse racing, Pat Ward-Thomas or Henry Longhurst on golf, you could read their reports and get the real flavour. The same with commentators. The only cricket commentator I really like now is Boycott, whereas you used to get Richie Benaud, Brian Johnson, John Arlott. You can go through the sports, even Syd Waddell. Maybe I'm just showing my age, but these guys were artists.
Websites in particular rush to get stories out and have little to no proof reading. It's all about click rates as that drives advertising money. I notice even SLP now cut their headlines short in order to get those hits E.g "charlton in bid for..". Can't stand it.
