England fast bowler James Anderson has announced via a personal statement today that he will retire from Test cricket after the first Test at Lord's against the West Indies this summer

I think that's one Test match I'd like to attend - a magnificent bowler, he's one of the best and will doubtless be sorely missed by England.

Watching the first game in the women's State of Origin series from Brisbane - all I can say is that I'm glad I never encountered them when I played. Muscles in places I never had places, bone-crunching tackles, speed, fitness and lots of ball skills - frighteningly good really.

When I first saw James bowl I thought we have our own McGrath, in fact James was better and that is saying a lot. A great athlete, truly one of the greats. Disappointing he didn't leave at the end of the series. He will be missed.

The Cricket world cup has started and there are not even highlights on Free to Air tv, what a disgrace. Sky et al have stopped sport being accessible to the masses.

It is a disgrace - but it seems to be the way of things now.

You may find that they're being streamed here - if you can navigate your way through all the ads and nasties that dwell there.

Although a great deal of football has been gobbled up by Canal Sports, there is still quite a lot of sport available here on free to air TV. The Champions League final was shown last night, and today tennis and cycling get extensive coverage. Of course, there is no cricket, which appears to be a complete mystery to the French. The days of a Saturday afternoon on the Beeb, with different sports has long gone, to be replaced by reruns of old programmes.

Yes and on other channels too.

Used to have F1, cricket, tennis, golf and horse racing plus football at once sometimes!

I bet the BBC only have Wimbledon as Sky don't really want to spend all day showing tennis alongside cricket and they have a good relationship with the LTA/Wimbledon organisers unlike with the R and and ECB although guess the Beeb do have some cricket back.

    Sad news about Rob Burrow.

    Died aged 41.

Had been suffering from MND but very brave and raised a lot for charity.

Yes, so very sad for him, his wife and children. There has been something inspirational about the way that he and Kevin Sinfield have set about creating awareness and raising £15M for the MND research. Thirty years ago my wife had a friend who died from it in her mid-thirties, and it was horrible to see her go from a healthy young mother to her death in six months. Although progress is being made, no cure has yet been found.
The BBC have come up with a fitting tribute to him.

A team has won a 40-over match after just one legitimate ball of their chase in Stoke-on-Trent.

Checkley's second XI recorded a 10-wicket victory over Wedgwood's second XI in the first round of the Cricket Cave Talbot Shield in the North Staffordshire and South Cheshire League.

They needed just nine to win after Wedgwood were all out for eight in 10.1 overs, with eight of their batters dismissed without scoring.

In reply, Checkley sealed the victory after one legitimate ball. Blake Haddrell hit the first ball, which was also a no-ball, for four and then hit another four when it was re-bowled.

Bowler Charlie Lewis took five Wedgwood wickets for just one run, while Nick Hunt claimed 4-3.

Of Wedgwood's eight runs, five of them were extras, coming via four leg byes and a wide.

The T20 game between Scotland and England has been abandoned. Leeds, Birmingham or London? No Barbados. :afro:

Lucky, lucky England - saved by the rain in the Cricket World Cup. Scotland had them on the ropes with their 90/0, leaving England needing 109 from their ten overs.
