Over the years watching City there been times i have had tickets for home end and gone in a couple by acccident. My list. Brentford we arrived seriously early and went on a pub crawl and went in the closest turnstile. Not the only ones, not even close, City started singing and it ended in fists swinging. Not mine. Bristol Rovers at Eastville. Bit where the old stand used to be 100's of City in there and easier to get tickets than in the away end. Bristol Rovers at twerton x2 no away tickets left so bought tickets for theirs. Got properly chinned once after City scored and well i could not keep still. Fairs fair. Cheltenham. No chance of away tickets. City won 4-2 I think. went to the toilet and City scored and as i returned my mates are being escorted out by ob ad stewards. the home fans were complaining not that we shouldnt have been there but that we should have been left as were not causing any problems, and we were not. Halifax. Followed City fans in from the pub. Stayed a half nobody minded and moved at half time to end City were attacking. Millwall. yes Millwall at the old Den. Arrived late went to the turnstile next to away end by accident. Through turnstile realised mistake found the nearest steward and he goes "THE AWAY END IS .." The four of us needed stewards and police to get us out!!! Funny now. Wasnt then. Northampton six fields. No chance of away tickets so bought in theres. City score and it gets feisty. Ob took me out as i asked to be moved and as i went out their telling dont react as i get covered in gob going out the exit to the away end. That one makes me shivver rather be punched than be spat on and it was on. Swindon. Stratton bank. Loads of City in there due to sold out tickets. So many there was a part of the ground opened for us to be escorterd quietly to. Wigan. Group of us were guests of Wigan supporting friends in the stand at Springfield park. No problem. Locals were brilliant. The rule - Keep your mouth shut.
Only time that happened for me, was walking to the City v Gas game at AG bumped into gashead friends walking towards old away end / dolman entrances. My city supporting friends walked ahead of me chatting and when I went to get to Dolman entrance OB assumed I was a gashead and refused me to get past. My gashead friends thought it was hilarious and said I’m gas so was forced to stand with them in away end. We lost 3-1 so if you ever see a miserable fan in the away end on video that’s me!
When I was young (20) I went to Ninian Park for the first time. Somehow I managed to get in the wrong section of the ground, in with the Cardiff fans, all standing then of course. We lost 5-1 and to protect myself I cheered all the Cardiff goals as they went in. A completely miserable day out! Just tracked the game December 31st 1966. (Happy New Year) Lol
Eastville, went with gashead mates, in front of the stand on the side opposite the M32, it was the cup game where we beat them, think it was 2-1 and if I remember correctly they scored first. Had to spend the whole game pretending to be a gashead. Awful experience , great result though. Can remember getting back to my car and cheering my head off.
Think I was at the same game, stood at the open end, a bit like a kop with theCityfans, January 30th 1968 Rovers scored first, Stuart Taylor, I think. John Galley and Chris Crowe gave us a half time lead and that’s how it finished.
I’ve been in with the Swindon fans a few times, hoping that any of my mates I bumped into in there wouldn’t ‘out’ me as a City fan - they didn’t. I also went and sat in the Tom Finney stand at PNE last game of John Ward’s promotional season. Mrs R&W jumped up and cheered in the middle of a silent stand when we scored. After a vain attempt at pulling her clothes and hissing at her to sit down and be quiet the cat was totally out of the bag. I turned around to a bemused crowd around me and in my broadest West Country drawl I said ‘We aren’t really pleased about that!’ They broke the ice and the Preston fans were fine and friendly. They also won the game 2-1 which stopped us getting the cup
I have been in Gas end at three different grounds. I walked past a City supporting mate at Eastville. He may have thought he wasn't obvious, but he was the only fan wearing a hooded jacket, hood up, fastened tightly in the sunshine before that look became a thing.
Greetings from sunny Nerja. Went to Swindon 1970ish - we 'took' the Town end remember singing we got the Town end in our hands.....etc.etc Went to Ninian Park thinking we'll 'take' the Grange end, mistake or what !
Arsenals North Bank first game back in 1st Division!! Eight of us went up because we were flying to Benidorm next day from Gatwick. Got to the game late and went to the closest gate. As we all had strong Bristol accents we kept very, very quiet, especially when Cheese put the ball in the back of the net. It was great seeing the Clock End erupt though. A day I’ll never, ever forget!!
I was there too, in with the City fans, my best memory of a City game ever. The first game in the 1st division against possibly the best team in the country at their own ground, an honourable draw was the best I imagined, I didn’t expect us to play them off the park, but we did, we won 1-0, it could easily have been 2 or 3, what a day.
Fantastic day, we walloped Arsenal, Cheese put that ball in the back of the net and sent us all off into dreamland, brilliant day, everlasting memory, I just loved being there with all of our fans, wonderful, we and the team were as one.
I was on the Clock End that August day. Happy there but when the North Bank emptied with 10 minutes to go we knew we were in for some fun.
the cup replay at anfield, was living in london at the time so no way was i going to get a ticket, bright ideal, phone mate up here on merseyside, no problem he said, in fact me and a few friends will come as well, will be in the centenary stand though,no problem till the tin man scored and i nearly hit the roof; to top it all on the way to the pub afterwards a few likely lads from bristol decided to take a pop at us.. not clever but didnt buy one drink in the conservative club that night, what a brilliant evening.
I was there too, but in the city end, it was my first, and only visit to Anfield. I was surprised how Small it is, a great evening I agree, Liverpool fans were amazing, clapping OUR team.
