That's a cracking signing for Bournemouth. Especially if they keep King. They create a lot of chances.
I refuse to believe Bournemouth are stupid enough to pay £120k basic pw. There's no way they'd commit to paying a 34-7 year old £120k regardless of goals/appearances. For the amount of goals he'll get them, it's a good deal.
I'd imagine there's more to it than that, the same way 'every one' reports Rooney as being paid £300k pw, when he isn't.
The total payable would be in the range of £18.7m - £20.3m if that's correct and there aren't any massive signing-on fees (or that includes any such fees). Assuming it has some kind of clause related to relegation, it isn't that insane an outlay; even at his age, no one would have blinked if a team bought Defoe for £8m and gave him £65k p/w for three seasons, and the money committed is effectively identical. It wouldn't be pleasant to have to eat it if Defoe declines, but it's short enough that it wouldn't be murderous, either. I mean, I wouldn't do it, but it might not be quite as nuts as it appears at first blush.
but he's moving on a free transfer! he's obviously worth a few million so even if his wages are high he's a bargain!

No, Rooney is on £250k before tax, all figures are quoted before tax. The rest of the other £50k image right enhancements, so the club don't pay it.
I never argued he was. My point was that what the press report was weekly earnings are usually very different to the contract that the player & club agrees.
That's more like it. No way Bournemouth could afford £120k a week and it would blow a hole in their wage structure .....
