This will probably cause a bit of argument but I want to advertise a petition to get fans back in stadiums. If people are allowed in pubs, cinemas, restaurants etc, why not stadiums? It's outside and the restrictions to capacities and no away fans means that public transport will not be rammed with supporters. The work the PL and EFL have put in means it will be safe inside the stadium. Fans are being allowed back in other sports and football stadiums in other countries, including the US. Here's the link to the petition if you wish to sign: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/552036
It's a difficult one but people should have the freedom to make the choice themselves. The problem for me is the selfishness of people which has been the case from the beginning. If I go to a game with thousands of others then should I be able to go to work and risk infecting everybody? I wouldn't feel comfortable with visiting my parents knowing I've been around so many people unless I was happy with the way it was done.
I can see both sides of this, and I genuinely can't make my mind up. On the one hand, I absolutely agree that football in general, from local Sunday Leagues to the Champions League, desperately needs fans back in the stadiums, and that watching a match on TV, with or without simulated crowd noises, is no substitute for actually being there. However, I have grave concerns that even limiting crowd sizes to 20% of stadium capacity or whatever it is, and keeping away fans out, wouldn’t completely address the safety concerns. Yes, people will be outdoors, and there will be less of them, but studies have shown that shouting and singing increases the amount of aerosols broadcast, and the distance they travel, many times. And I don’t accept the freedom of choice argument either: if you become infected, you will infect other people without their having a choice. I think I’d rather wait a while, certainly until the second wave which is now happening has passed its peak. Hopefully by then there will be progress with a vaccine which will mean light at the end of the tunnel will at least be visible.
Signed. If you can go to the o2, or the royal albert hall, or even ****ing cinemas ... why cant you go to a football stadium?
Yep, signed. I trust Saints, and probably most clubs, to do everything reasonably possible to make watching football outside in a 3/4 empty stadium a lot safer than watching it in the pub.
For what it’s worth Stuart Armstrong has tested positive, according to the BBC https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54453593
Don't agree with opening stadiums yet - sorry. Lower leagues where it is a choice of going bankrupt or risking letting in fans I would be more favorable for but in the PL it is not necessary IMHO
Eh? I sit in row L, and sometimes if it rains and there’s a strong wind I get wet, so it’s definitely outside.
But you enter through an enclosed complex/Concourse to get to that seat where thousands of people have just done the same thing as you. But you're outside again 30 seconds later so it's all good.
But plans are in place to make the arrival and departure from the stadium as safe as possible and restricting the amount of people in the concourse during the match.
How can you restrict people already in a stadium , whether they go in or out the concourse at different times everyone will be entering one or leaving one atleast twice on matchday. With cases rising daily this is just a dumb **** idea.
You can't make anything 100% safe, because life isn't ever 100% safe. But you can take all reasonable precautions, then get on with your life.
