He's too close to the box which means he has less space to run into. Plus he doesn't have many options ahead of him combined with the fact that he was rusty.

Play him deeper where the play is ahead of him thus more options are available. <ok>

I have to agree... yes he is tall, fast, athletic, strong and comfortable on the ball but he made those two bad positional errors and johnson shoudl have socred off one.

yes moreno would have got it with both barells.

If o'driscoll gave him the shout then IMO his time at the club just paid for itself.... I think left full will bring him on a lot but he's a RB/CB all day....

Carragher had to make do with LB for a while.. it'll do him no harm...

I like him wide left so he can get the shot off. close enough that his quick feet can make space. I really don't like his passing most of the time honeslty.

I don't like him so deep that he's playing LCM for instance. he doesn;t have a range of passes and he needs to move it quicker.

    IMO left forward suits him.

Dont remember him making two big errors at all. He gave away one free kick out wide which mig comfortably pushed behind, hardly call that a big error and can't remember him giving anything else away

why is he being wasted at lb? Other options are at RB, won't get in ahead of Clyne, or CB, won't get in ahead of the others. So if it's lb or no where then lb is far better for his development.

Would you say say axpilicueta is wasted at lb? Or how about lahm? Just because they are right footed doesn't mean they can't play there to a really high level.

Fair point and good examples. But bear in mind that those two were always natural full backs - not centre backs.

For me, he's got the potential to become a top centre back and it's where a lot of coaches see him play in the future - which is more crucial position for us and I want him to develop there.

I suppose my concerns stem from Wisdom and Kelly failing at fullback and don't want the same for Gomez.

I don't want him playing lb for long, but like carragher I think it's a lot better for younger players to get an understanding of the game at full back. It's easier to work on things like positioning and 1v1 defending out wide where errors are less likely to cause goals.

I cant ant see him playing there long term and think he will get moved to the centre but he played all his football for charlton first team at RB, so shouldn't be something new to him

    Yep, true.

Either way, he's a special talent.

Would that be the Kelly that is a starter in the Premier League every week as a fullback?

Kellys slowly recovering from being in England squad to being nowhere but he is no full back imo.

His body broke down twice playing it for us.

But I fail to see how Wisdom failed at full back given we've just consistently loaned him out and bar pulis coming in he's played.

And I've pointed out carragher playing the role too ...

    Gomez is getting experience.

Have the mancs pointed to Smalling and Jones playing RB. ... every bit of experience helps imo

Bib theory, Gomez, Lovren, Lallana and Coutinho start.
    Markovic, Firmino on the bench.

Theres a 60min substitution then. I'd rather have a bedding in Firmino than any Lallana starting.

Rodgers has said that Firmino is "getting closer to first start" which to me suggests he's just not quite there yet.

  18. I prefer someone to earn the right to take the shirt off Lallana.

Maybe in training he has shown enough to earn the right?
