Pompey Academy returned to winning ways with a 4-2 victory at Plymouth in the Youth Alliance League.

It was an impressive recovery from the young Blues following their heavy loss at Bournemouth earlier in the week.

They took the lead when Harry Anderson collected a ball over the Argyle defence and neatly slotted home.

The visitors then worked the ball across the pitch for Harrison Brook to score and double the advantage.

Plymouth reduced their deficit from the penalty spot just before the break, but Pompey regained the initiative in the second half.

It was an impressive finish from Gerard Storey (pictured) to restore their two-goal lead, with the midfielder finding the top corner from 25 yards.

The hosts then pulled one back before substitute Alfie Stanley was teed-up by Christian Dawson to wrap up all three points.

Academy manager Mark Kelly said: “After the disappointment of Bournemouth on Tuesday, it was all about getting the behaviour model right again.

“The platform was set in the under-23s game against Exeter a couple of days later and we’re getting the quality back to the levels that are needed.

“We looked very bright in the early stages and scored twice in the opening 30 minutes, then moved on from there.

“There was some good football and the correct decisions were being made, while the boys also displayed plenty of work-rate and commitment.

“It was pleasing to see the structure and organisation return to our play and that was exactly what we asked from them.”

Pompey: Taylor Seymour; Haji Mnoga, Tom Bruce, Ethan Robb, Hughes; Eoin Teggart, Gerard Storey (Stan Bridgman 60), Dawson, Harrison Brook; Seok Jae Lee (Alfie Stanley 78), Harry Anderson
Subs not used: Liam Kelly, Harvey Rew
